Mahindra Thar 5-door to be called this?
SUVs are the current trend in our market. All types of SUVs are in high demand, even lifestyle SUVs are attracting a lot of buyers. These lifestyle SUVs offer great off-road capabilities but are not practical for everyday usage. So manufacturers like Mahindra and Force are working on 5-door versions of the Thar and Gurkha respectively. Maruti will also join in the party with the 5-door Jimny. Now getting back to the Thar, what could Mahindra name it? Just adding a 5-door prefix will not do justice to the car. In today’s article, let’s talk about the new 2023 Thar 5-door and its probable moniker.
What’s in the name?
The Mahindra Thar is a legendary name in the market. However, the Thar nameplate resembles a compact Jeep-like body type. The Thar 5-door though would look like a Jeep, but will be quite different with the extended length. So what could Mahindra name it? One name that comes to mind is the Armada. The Armada nameplate holds a rich history in our market as it was a car based on the original ‘CJ-5 jeep’. So the Armada moniker could suit the Thar 5-door quite well.
Expectations
The Thar 5-door will be based upon the modified ladder on-frame platform that underpins the Scorpio-N. The Thar 5-door could get some subtle design changes on the exterior. In the interiors, we can expect a more premium fit and finish. Also, we can expect several new features on the Thar 5-door like a big infotainment system, 360-degree camera, wireless charging and automatic climate control. What will power the Thar 5-door? The Thar 5-door could come with 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Mahindra will have to tune this engine differently from the 3-door Thar. Unsurprisingly, it will come with 4×4 capabilities. Moreover, it is expected to come with a 4×2 variant for the lower variants to keep pricing in check.
2023 Thar 5-door- Launch timeline
Earlier, the Thar 5-door was expected to be unveiled at the Auto Expo of 2023. However, according to our sources, Mahindra could maybe skip the Auto Expo of 2023. So why is Mahindra skipping the event? Mahindra doesn’t have any new concepts it can display. It might directly unveil the Thar 5-door in the second half of 2023. Could Mahindra unveil the Thar 5-door on 15th August as it did with the 3-door Thar and XUV700? Only time will tell.
