Kia launched its compact SUV, the Sonet in September 2020. It kickstarted the brand’s journey in this segment and did fairly well competing against Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, and more. Kia’s prominent ball game is in the features & varied powertrain options sector. However, with the competition being dominant, Kia could bring a facelift version to remove all thorns on its side. What could change in the 2023 Kia Sonet facelift? Let’s know more.

When can Kia Sonet get a facelift?

Kia Sonet facelift

We are aware that Kia is likely to launch the Seltos facelift in the coming months. If we look at the brand’s strategy, it plans to bring an essential facelift after 3 years from the initial launch. If we talk about the Seltos, the brand did the same. It launched the Seltos in the year 2019 and now it is gearing up to bring the facelift in the upcoming year. The same could be carried over to the Sonet. Its Sonet was launched in 2020, there is a high chance that the Sonet facelift could be unveiled globally next year and India might witness a launch in 2024.

Design Updates

The Sonet might take some inspiration from the Seltos facelift. Kia may add similar changes to the Sonet in terms of exterior styling and design. For starters, the front ‘Tiger Nose’ grille can be enlarged to look bolder and more striking. Other changes might be added to the headlamps and bumper styling. Getting to the sides and rear, minor changes like different alloy designs, new exterior paint colours, and some tweaks to the rear taillamps.

Features

Getting in the interiors, Sonet is already a premium-looking car. The new facelift model would even enhance it. How will Kia do it? It might give it some more features, soft-touch materials, a changed dashboard layout, and a better fully digital instrument cluster. Other additions might add some missing features like a cooled glove box, Heads Up Display, electric driver seat, height adjustable seat belts, etc.

Powertrain

Talking about its powertrain options, Kia is already well-equipped. So, the facelift model could continue to get the existing powertrain options. A 1.5-litre diesel engine, a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine might be on offer. Transmission options would mostly vary from a 5-speed manual (petrol), 6-speed manual (diesel), iMT & torque convertor AT gearbox.

Pricing

Currently, the Sonet has been priced at Rs 8.78 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) for the base HTE variant. It goes at Rs 16.88 lakh for the X-Line diesel automatic variant. What about the pricing of the facelift? Prices could only go north as the amount of equipment would increase. A price hike of Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000 can be expected.
