Hyundai recently launched its new sporty trim of the Venue known as the N-Line. Now, this special trim is largely cosmetic updates along with some new tweaks on the suspension and growly sound. It also came out with some new features like an integrated dashcam, sporty red inserts in interiors, and more. On the other hand, Mahindra also recently added an all-new TurboSport variant to its own Venue competitor, the XUV300. So, which is the better buy of these two? Now first let’s talk about the latest entrant here. Mahindra has been in a tight corner with its XUV300. This model is a highly under-rated product in its category. However, now with the launch of the new TurboSport trim, the brand has given the car a fresh update. Talking about its design upgrades, this one gets sporty red inserts on the front bumper, grille & on the rear variant-insignia. The ORVMs are also blacked out and now you get an all-new ‘Bronze’ colour specific to this variant. The evident ‘T-GDi’ badging is present on the front fender along with updates on the alloy wheel design. In the interior, the car gets an all-black treatment and continues to get features like dual zone AC, sunroof, 8-inch infotainment system, etc. It is available in 3 variants- W6, W8 and W8 Optional.

Talking about the South Korean car here, Hyundai recently updated the Venue. The N-Line upgrade is based on the facelifted car itself that gets new features and styling. Unlike the regular car, the N-Line gets twin-tip exhausts, red inserts all over the exterior, all disc brakes as standard, etc. In terms of features, it gets wireless charging, a dashcam, red ambient lighting, and more. It is available in 2 variants- N6 and N8.

Mahindra’s most prominent change in the XUV300 TurboSport is the new mStallion engine. It uses a T-GDi setup which results in more efficient combustion. Usage of this technology offers a high performance by returning decent mileage figures. It gets a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine which churns out 128bhp and 230Nm of torque. One thing to note is that it is only available with a 6-Speed manual transmission. It also gets a unique over-boost function that operates between the 2nd and 6th gear. It gives an additional torque boost of 20Nm when RPMs range between 1,750-2,500 revolutions and the accelerator pedal is pressed over 70%. Moreover, Mahindra has also claimed a 0 to 100kmph time of 10.9 seconds.

In the Venue N-Line, there isn’t any addition of a new engine as such. It is available with the same 1.0-litre turbo petrol from the regular Venue that makes 118bhp and 172Nm of torque. Transmission options are only limited to an automatic DCT transmission.

Now, before reaching the conclusion, let’s take a look at the pricing. Mahindra has priced the XUV300 TurboSport at Rs 15.15 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) for the W8(O) variant. Whereas, the Venue N-line is priced at Rs 15.54 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) for the top N8 variant. There is a difference of approx Rs 40,000 (on-road) between the top variants of both car which is not as much.

The Mahindra car here is the former less expensive one which gets an all-new engine and ample amount of features. It is also the most powerful compact SUV in the segment with the most safety rating as well and offers a great fun-to-drive experience. Whereas, if you want something which offers a commendable package that includes some additional features, slightly better sporty elements, etc. then the N-Line is also an option worth considering.
