The electric segment is seeing a rapid rise in our market. The contributor to this rise has been electric scooters. Several new startups like Ola, and Ather have entered this segment increasing the competition. Now even legacy brands like Hero have entered the foray. Last week, Hero launched the Vida V1 Pro. Design

The Ola scooter comes with a minimalistic design. At the front, we have twin headlamps surrounded by rectangular DRL strips that look inspired by ‘Wall-e’. Overall, the compact nature of the Ola scooter makes it a city-friendly scooter.

The Ola S1 Pro is one of the quickest scooters on the market. It comes with a ‘hyper-drive motor’, which produces 8.5kW (11bhp) and 58Nm of torque. The S1 Pro has a claimed top speed of 115kmph and 0-60kmph time of 5 seconds. The S1 Pro also comes with driving modes (Eco, Normal, Sport & Hyper).

The Vida V1 Pro comes with an electric motor that produces 6kW (8bhp) and has a top speed of 80kmph. Hero claims a 0-40kmph time of 3.4 seconds. The Hero Vida V1 Pro also gets three driving modes.

Battery and range

The Ola S1 Pro comes with a 3.97kWh battery pack giving it a claimed range of 181km. However, people have extracted even more (200km+) range in the new Eco mode. This battery pack can take 6hr 30mins to charge on a home charger.

The Vida V1 Pro comes with a 3.94kWh battery pack giving it an IDC range of 165km. This battery pack can take 5hr 55mins to charge on a home charger. Another noteworthy thing is that the Vida V1 Pro comes with removable batteries for added convenience.

Other features

Features have become an important factor in two-wheelers and four-wheelers. The Ola S1 Pro comes with features like hill-hold assist, cruise control, a 7.0-inch touchscreen instrument cluster, music playback, reverse mode etc. Can the Vida V1 Pro match it? The Vida V1 Pro comes with features like a 7.0-inch TFT touchscreen, keyless operation, riding modes, connected features, etc. All-in-all, the Ola S1 Pro offers more features when compared to the Hero electric scooter.

The pricing of the Ola S1 Pro starts from Rs 1.50 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The Ola S1 Pro is available throughout the country. The pricing of the Vida V1 Pro starts from Rs 1.67 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). As of now, Vida V1 Pro will only be available in Bangalore, Delhi and Jaipur. According to Hero, other locations will be added soon.

So which one should you consider? The Ola S1 Pro has seen its fair share of controversies, but it is still the most value-for-money option. In comparison, the Vida V1 Pro offers fewer features & range at a higher cost. However, the biggest plus point for the Vida V1 Pro is the backing of Hero brand and removable battery pack. So technically the Ola S1 Pro is the most sensible buy, but the Vida V1 Pro gives that extra surety that you get from an established brand.
