Mahindra Thar 5-door – New Launch Plans!
Mahindra is second to none when it comes to SUVs. It is the manufacturer with the highest number of SUVs available on sale. Talking about its SUVs like the Scorpio N, XUV700, and Thar, are the most popular cars in their segment. Its lifestyle off-roader Thar is in its own league in terms of road presence and macho characteristics. However, now with the anticipation for the Jimny 5-door launch, Mahindra has also begun testing the Thar 5-door. Let’s know in detail about the new launch plan of the new Mahindra Thar 5-door.
When can it launch?
As per some reports, Mahindra could launch the Thar 5-door next year, sometime in the second-half of 2023. However, Mahindra is in no mood to unveil this car at the Auto Expo 2023. We can expect a launch later on Independence day or any other national holiday. As the brand has launched cars like the XUV700, Thar, etc on such occasions, it is highly likely that the Thar 5-door could get the same treatment. It is also touted that Mahindra may not be present at the Auto Expo 2023. Why? As the brand has already showcased its Born Electric lineup, XUV300 TurboSport, XUV400, etc, it has already presented the majority of its new products. This justifies why Mahindra could not be present at the Auto Expo.
What changes are expected?
Mahindra would position the Thar 5-door over the 3-door layout. This means that the 5-door version is likely to be more equipped. Talking about its design and exterior, it could largely resemble the current selling Thar. Moreover, the most prominent addition would be the rear door for better accessibility. Recently, the 5-door version was spied testing with the same front look as the 3-door car. Other changes would include a new alloy wheel design and a new extended body design with an expected increase in wheelbase. This increase in the wheelbase would result in extra space for rear passengers and luggage.
Talking about the feature list, it is likely to be more loaded than the 3-door Thar. As Mahindra must be targeting practicality with off-roader capabilities, giving more features is a chief thing to do. Buyers might be buying this car as their primary vehicle, it would be used for city runs and other family chores. So, there is a high chance that it would be equipped with a healthy feature list. It could get features like a 360-degree camera, automatic AC, wireless charging, upgraded infotainment system, etc.
New Mahindra Thar 5-door launch – Specifications
It is confirmed that Mahindra would use the tweaked version of the Scorpio-N’s ladder-frame chassis. This would result in better driving capabilities by limiting the body roll and enhancing off-road performance. Talking about its engine options, it could continue to get the 2.0-litre petrol and the 2.2-litre diesel engine. Moreover, there is a possibility that Mahindra could retune the engine to make power. As this would be a bigger car with added weight, it demands a need for more power. Talking about the transmission options, it would continue to get manual and automatic gearbox options. To keep the starting prices economical, Mahindra could also bring a 4×2 drivetrain configuration in lower variants whereas the top variants would get 4×4.
