Toyota is known for its capable SUVs in India. With the wave of electrification, it has also strengthened its Hybrid range with the Urban Cruiser HyRyder but, what’s actually missing is a proper EV. With its partnership with Maruti, Toyota has upgraded its Indian portfolio and is looking forward to bringing more hybrids. Toyota electric SUV -New BZ2X
Toyota has trademarked its BZ series of names. In total, the brand has registered 11 names with it. The ‘BZ’ in these names stands for ‘Beyond Zero’ which means zero emissions. As the BZ is a fully electric range, it is expected that Toyota could launch more cars in the EV segment. The BZ2X is touted to be the electric version of the Toyota Yaris Cross (hybrid SUV) sold in the European market. This new EV would adopt design and technical elements from the Global ‘GA-C’ and the e-TNGA platform that would house different powertrain setups.

Toyota unveiled the small SUEV concept at the 2021 Auto Show. Moreover, the production version of the car(BZ2X) could take resemblance from the Yaris Cross. It would be Toyota’s urban SUV with a length ranging from 4.15 and 4.30 m. Talking about the design, it could get retractable door handles, C-shaped lights, and more. Unlike the Yaris Cross, this car would adopt a more sporty design language with a sloping roof line and prominent wheel arches. The addition of this car would enable Toyota to develop its name in the Small Urban SUV category which is gathering pace in global markets.

With this new range of cars, Toyota is testing the new E3 platform. This new combination could be the combination of GA-C and e-TNGA architecture. It is likely to have a range of 400km(WLTP cycle) with a battery capacity between 50kWh to 60kWh. Power figures could be around 135bhp or more.

The Japanese carmaker has revealed its plans in the EV sector. It has plans to bring 30 new EVs by 2030 and this small SUV would be one of them. We can expect the launch of this car only and only after 2025. What about pricing? It solely depends on the market demand and conditions of the future. Currently, Toyota is undergoing its plan to develop more hybrid cars in the country. With the new Innova Hybrid on its way, it is focusing on cleaner cars for India.
