The EV segment in India is seeing a steady rise. Most brands are aiming at bringing cutting-edge EVs to our market, while some have already started the cycle. However, the major hindrance to EVs in India has to be their high pricing. Thankfully, some brands are working on bringing affordable options as well. Two such EVs which we have extensively covered are the upcoming Tata Tiago EV and the MG Air EV. So which one should you wait for? In today’s article, let’s compare Tata Tiago EV vs MG Air EV.

First, let’s talk about the Tiago EV. The Tiago EV had been long time coming, and Tata finally made the big announcement on ‘World EV Day’ this month. This electric car would come with some elements that will clearly highlight its EV nature. EV badging across the car, some blue highlights and a closed grille will be some of the highlights.

The Air EV would be radically different from the Tiago EV. It is quite different from any car that we see in India. It is essentially a Kei car, but electric. The Air EV is a quirky-looking car with DRLs on the bonnet. From the side, we can see it only has two doors which is another unique aspect.

The regular Tiago comes with a clean dashboard layout with an integrated infotainment system. The rest of the dashboard is clean with minimal distractions. Tiago EV could get some blue highlights here and there. In terms of features, it could get a cooled glove box, keyless entry, rear camera, 7.0-inch Harman infotainment system, eight-speaker sound system and phone connectivity. Interestingly, the Tiago EV will come with premium leatherette seats which will enhance its premium quotient. Also on offer would be cruise control & multi-regen modes.

Tiago EV vs Air EV

For such a small car, the interiors of the Air EV do pack a punch. A 10.25-inch floating infotainment system coupled with a similar-sized instrument cluster is touted to be made available in the cabin. The central console will also come with a rotary-gear selector and an electronic parking brake.

Specifications

Tiago EV vs Air EV

Tata has been quite tight-lipped about the specifications of the Tiago EV. However, it is expected to share its specifications with the Tigor EV. The electric compact sedan comes with a 55kW motor paired with a 26kWh battery pack. What about the range? It gets a claimed range of 306km. We can expect similar configuration and figures for the Tiago EV.

Globally, the MG Air EV comes with two motor & range options; a 30kW and a 50kW motor with two range options – a 200km standard one & a 300km extended one. With this range, the Air EV could become a perfect city car.
