Maruti is launching one car after another. The brand updated most of its lineup and even unveiled the Grand Vitara. However, it has still not launched the most anticipated car in India. In July, the 5-door Jimny was first spotted testing in Europe. Now, we have obtained spy shots of the Jimny testing in India. What new detail does it reveal? The spy shots were sent to us by one of our readers, Ashutosh Senani. It is easy to figure out this is the Jimny from the front looks. We can see the iconic grille and circular headlamps. The Jimny 5-door looks quite proportionate, even with the added doors. It seems to be getting a sculpted bonnet from the silhouette design. Overall the car looks quite big. The WagonR next to it can be taken as a reference.
What else to expect?
The Jimny 5-door will pose a strong challenge to the Mahindra Thar. Maruti developed the 5-door Jimny for the Indian market, keeping in mind the practicality aspect. According to reports, Maruti could even bring six & seven-seater options on the Jimny 5-door. What about specifications? The Jimny 5-door will mostly come with a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine for the lower variants. There is an outside chance that we could see the 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine in the Jimny 5-door. Moreover, a recent report hinted at a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine to be in the works for this lifestyle SUV. Maruti could also give it some hybrid tech to balance fuel efficiency. Unsurprisingly, this SUV will come with 4×4 capabilities.
Jimny 5-door India – Launch timeline
As mentioned above, Jimny is confirmed to be unveiled in the coming months. Most probably, the unveiling could happen at the Auto Expo of 2023. What about the launch? The launch could happen sometime after the Auto Expo 2023. The Jimny 5-door will be sold through Maruti’s Nexa dealerships.
