The World EV Day has become a significant ocassion for automobile brands across the world. As we move closer to the era of EVs, new strategies & products are being planned for a smooth transition. Even a look at our country and we realise that the same movement is happening in India as well. Tata Motors has been leading the EV transition in the country for quite some time now. Products like the Tata Nexon EV & Tigor EV have put the brand on a pedestal when it comes to grabbing the EV market share. However, as mentioned above, every brand is planning new products to diversify its portfolio, and same is the case with Tata. The Indian carmaker has plans to put 10 EVs in its portfolio in the coming years. Today, on the ocassion of World EV Day, Tata has made a very important announcement. The brand is all set to bring its Tiago EV to the market in the coming days. So, what all could Tata Tiago EV offer? What could it be priced at? Everything in this article.

Tata Tiago EV – happening finally!

Tata Tiago EV

Tata had showcased the Tiago EV concept at the Auto Expo 2020. The product looked very promising and gave many buyers a strong hope that buying an EV would become affordable someday. However, nothing was heard about this particular product since. Speculations kept emerging but there was no confirmation from the brand. But today, it has all changed. With Tata confirming the Tiago EV, it brings back the hope that buying an EV, even in the nascent stages, does not need to be a very costly affair. There are a few brands in the country today that are focusing on bringing affordable EVs, and Tata stepping in is definitely a good sign. But, what all will this EV offer? Read on to know.

What to expect from this EV?

Tata Tiago EV

The Tiago EV, like other Tata EVs, will mostly carry the same elements that we see in its ICE counterpart. The car will holistically be the same, but will get subtle changes to differentiate itself, along with mechanical ones. Subtle design changes will include blue highlights inside and outside the cabin, along with EV badging here and there. Signature Teal Blue colour & Daytona Grey colour options will mostly be on offer.

As far as mechanical details are concerned, we expect this EV to borrow its powertrain from the Tigor EV, since both are based on the same platform. This means that the Tigor EV could come powered by Tata’s Ziptron Technology, housing in a 26kWh, IP67-rated, liquid-cooled high energy density battery pack. The setup could produce around 74bhp & 170Nm of torque and offer a claimed range of around 306km. However, given the Tiago EV has a smaller boot, could Tata offer it with a smaller battery pack? Do let us know what you think.

Feature wise, we expect it to come with everything that the Tigor EV has on offer. This means a rotary gear selector, 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual airbags, fast charging, drive modes (D & S), automatic AC, etc. All-in-all, Tata would want to maintain the premium quotient of the Tiago by offering a safe, spacious and comfortable cabin.

The Tiago EV is all set to enter the market this month and has already been confirmed by Tata. As far as pricing is concerned, we expect the Tiago EV to be priced from somewhere between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom).
