Mahindra invested in the EV segment way before any other manufacturer was even thinking about it. Sadly, it didn’t work out well for them, so Mahindra took a step back. Mahindra knew that it would need a proper strategy to re-enter the EV segment. Finally, after a long wait, Mahindra showcased Born Electric cars in August. However, Mahindra was already working on the XUV400. We have been hearing about the XUV400 for a long time and now Mahindra has finally unveiled it. In today’s article, we will talk about the unveiled Mahindra XUV400.
Mahindra XUV400 unveiled
Today was just the unveil of the XUV400. Mahindra has revealed the complete launch plan of the XUV400. In September, we have the media drives. Then in October & November, Mahindra will be setting-up a fun fest for customers. When can customers experience the XUV400? The XUV400 will be arriving in showrooms and will be made available for test drives in December. After all this, price announcement & bookings will open in January 2023, with deliveries set to happen soon after.
The overall silhouette of the XUV400 is pretty identical to the XUV300. However, there are some subtle changes. First of all, the XUV400 is longer than the XUV300. It is 4200mm in length, 1821mm in width & 1634mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase of 2600mm and boot space of 378-litres (418-litres when counted up to roof). Next up, we have the closed grille, a common trait of all EVs. This grille gets the copper-coloured Mahindra logo with X-shaped inserts. Headlamps come with LED DRLs and chrome elements.
The side profile is similar to the XUV300, barring the extra length. At the rear, we have a new tail lamp design. The XUV400 also gets a copper-coloured roof with an electric sunroof. The interior gets an all black theme with copper inserts, giving it a premium look. Mahindra has updated the button layout from the XUV300.
Mahindra has paid special attention to headroom, legroom, visibility from the cabin and boot space, to make it an overall comfortable & attractive package. Mahindra has benchmarked cars like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Kona EV, MG ZS EV & Tata Nexon EV Max while planning the strategy for this product.
Battery & Range
The Mahindra XUV400 comes with a 148bhp PSM motor and best-in-class torque of 310Nm, paired to a 39.4kW battery pack. What about its range figures? The XUV400 comes with a claimed range of 456km. The battery pack comes with IP67 certification (dustproof & waterproof). How fast is the XUV400? The XUV400 can do 0 to 100kmph sprint in just 8.3 seconds, making it the fast EV in its segment. The XUV400 can also fast-charge with the DC charger and can go from 0% to 80% in mere 50 mins.
