Hyundai has established itself as a brand in India with a strong sense of value-for-money. It has made this image over the years by offering premium interiors and features even in its affordable cars. However, as the market matures, Hyundai wants to up its game. Recently, it wrapped up the launch of the Tucson, its current flagship SUV in India. Outside India, it has a more premium SUV that sits about Tucson called the Palisade. Hyundai could bring the Palisade to India as the market in this space is not yet crowded. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Hyundai Palisade in India.

Dimensions & Design

Hyundai Palisade India

The Palisade is a big full-size SUV. Dimension-wise, it is 4980mm in length, 1976mm in width & 1750mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase of 2900mm and has a ground clearance of 200mm. What about design? The Palisade recently got a facelift giving it a new exterior design. At the front, we have a new ‘parametric jewel grille’ that integrates into the DRL design. The front of the Palisade looks similar to the newly launched Venue to some extent. From the side, we can see the big overhang. At the rear, we have C-shaped LED taillamps and dual exhausts.

The Palisade definitely brings with it a strong, muscular character, something that people who buy SUVs definitely look for. Overall, it is a big SUV that will be perfectly suited for Indian roads where road presence holds a huge impact.

Hyundai Palisade India – Specifications

Globally, the Palisade comes with a 3.8-litre V6 engine. This engine produces 290bhp & 355Nm of torque. We don’t expect this engine to come to India, considering bringing the V6 will be a costly affair. So what can Hyundai do? It could bring the 2.2-litre diesel engine that once powered the Santa Fe in India. Hyundai might retune the engine to produce more power. Transmission options could include an automatic gearbox option only.

Interior & Features

Being Hyundai’s premium offering, the Palisade comes with all the bells and whistles. It comes with a busy dashboard layout with a floating infotainment system and instrument cluster. Hyundai has opted for greyish interiors, giving it an airy cabin. What about features? In markets where it is currently available, this SUV comes with features like a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, 10-inch infotainment with wireless connectivity, 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, ambient lighting and much more. It also comes with ADAS features like blind-spot assist, forward collision avoidance assists, and lane keeping assist.

Hyundai Palisade – Will it come to India?

So the big question is, will it come to India? Hyundai is yet to confirm anything about Palisade’s launch in India. In 2020, reports stated that Hyundai was evaluating the Palisade for the Indian market. However, talks seem to have slowed down, given shift of strategy. But as the Indian market grows, Hyundai will have to bring in cars like the Palisade to the country to widen its portfolio. For now, Hyundai seems to be focusing on launching its electric flagship car, the IONIQ 5 in India.
