Toyota Innova HyCross launch details OUT!

Innova has been an immense success for Toyota in many Asian countries, including India. The car that is synonymic to reliability and comfort has a huge share in creating Toyota’s dominance in the Indian market. Now, with the world moving towards electrification & hybrid powertrains, diesel engines are moving towards eradication. According to multiple media reports, Toyota has stopped taking bookings for the diesel variants of the Innova Crysta. This could be in tandem with the brand’s plan to bring in a new hybrid MPV that is touted to be called the Innova HyCross. So, what will the Toyota Innova HyCross launch in India? We tell you in this article.

Toyota’s plan for hybrid cars

Toyota has serious ambitions for its hybrid cars in India. The Japanese automaker is in contradiction with its European & western rivals. The Europeans are focusing majorly on complete EVs whereas the business partnership of Maruti Suzuki & Toyota aspires towards full hybrids. As India is a developing market, usage of full hybrid cars would be a closer step towards full electrification. The perks of a hybrid car such as self-charging capabilities, higher fuel efficiency, and smaller batteries enhances its convenience over full electric cars. Keeping all these things in mind, Toyota is betting high on the Indian market for alternatives to fossil fuels. Toyota in India is capable enough to build strong and mild hybrid cars but it requires the market to tend towards the concept of hybrid. This new one is expected to get double motors with the company’s THS ll (Toyota Hybrid System ll) which focuses on higher low-end torque and higher fuel efficiency.

Present day, Toyota and Maruti Suzuki are partnered in India. However, the Innova being a proper Toyota, there are very high chances that Toyota would be taking up this project all alone. The 2.0-litre petrol engine, which is touted to power this new-age MPV would come from Toyota. Moreover, the platform (TNGA-C) would be Toyota’s investment. Now, where the hybrid system comes from is a question that will only be answerable once the hybrid options on offer become clear. With the Urban Cruiser Hyryder as well, the mild hybrid setup comes from Maruti whereas the strong hybrid comes from Toyota. Do you think Maruti would be involved in the new Toyota Innova? Toyota Innova HyCross – Launch & Pricing

The new Innova is highly likely to be revealed by the end of this year. Year-end unveil could mean that the launch could take place sometime next year, sometime in the initial months of 2023. Also, Toyota will continue to sell the Innova Crysta along with this new one. With the brand’s strong focus on heavy localisation, the Toyota Innova HyCross is expected to be priced somewhere between Rs 25 lakh to Rs 33 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Toyota Innova HyCross – Design

Toyota has been testing the HyCross in a disguised avatar. There is very little to say about the design of the car but the car is touted to maintain its MPV looks. It is touted to sit on a 2850mm long wheelbase, which is a 100mm increase over the current selling Crysta. Overall, the length of the car is said to witness a decrease but the increment in wheelbase would make this car more spacious on the inside. Recently, some renderings of the Toyota Innova Hycross were shared online. Would you be interested if the new Innova looks like this? Tell us in the comments.
