Citroen C3 to dominate segment with this?

Citroen is one of the latest manufacturers to enter the Indian market. Its first car, the C5 Aircross, showed the brand’s capabilities in offering premium, comfort-oriented cars. Recently, it also launched the mass-market C3 to attract buyers from the budget segment. The C3 has drawn praises for its unique design, powerful engine and its ride quality. However, the C3 does lack the value for money quotient compared to the Tata Punch, Nissan Magnite & Renault Kiger, due to its lacking features. To tackle this, Citroen is working on a CNG option for the C3. Recently, the test mule was spotted testing in India. SO, what all do the spy shots reveal and what to expect from C3 CNG? Everything in this article.

What was spied on?

A heavily camouflaged car was spotted with an emission testing unit attached to it. The car was spotted testing in Bangalore. It is easy to figure out this is the C3 from the taillamp design and the overall dimensions. What else do the spy shots reveal? This could be a CNG variant considering the opened boot and the attached emission equipment. Citroen could also be testing the automatic gearbox, which is rumoured to be launched in 2023. What are your thoughts about an automatic C3? Also, do you think Citroen could be the first one to offer automatic CNG? Do let us know in the comments.

Why a CNG?

The rising fuel prices have made buyers concerned about the mileage figures of a car. Currently, the C3 has an ARAI claimed mileage of 19-20kmpl, which is decent. However, buyers have started expecting more. So the next best option for Citroen is to bring a CNG version of the C3. Citroen could pair the CNG option to the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. This will give a big competitive advantage to C3 over the rivals. Could the CNG unit be paired to the 1.2-litre turbocharged engine?

Citroen C3 CNG – Launch probability?

There is no official confirmation from Citroen regarding the C3 CNG, but the spy shots do hint that there is a probability to see this variant in the future. The Citroen C3 CNG will give it a big advantage over the Punch, Magnite and Kiger. What about the pricing? Currently, the C3 starts from Rs 6.73 lakh and goes to Rs 9.43 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). If launched, the C3 CNG could be Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000 more expensive, depending upon the variants.
