Mahindra is riding high on the success of its new SUVs. All of its new SUVs are doing quite well for the brand. However, one SUV that bombed in the sales chart was the KUV100. Mahindra couldn’t capitalise on the USPs of the KUV100 like Tata has done with Punch. But what about the eKUV100? The eKUV100 was expected to be the first affordable EV in India, but Mahindra has been quite tightlipped about its launch. So, an important question that comes to mind is, will we ever see the eKUV100? In today’s article, let’s talk about this Mahindra car.

What do we know so far?

The Mahindra eKUV100 seems to be under testing forever. Mahindra has been quite tightlipped about its launch. Last year, Mahindra launched its Nemo Life app for its future electric cars. During this teaser, we got a glimpse of the eKUV100. Since then, the car has been spotted only a few times, but overall it has almost been forgotten. So will we ever see it? According to earlier reports, Mahindra could restrict the eKUV100 to commercial buyers. However, new reports have hinted that Mahindra could launch it after the XUV400. It does make sense for Mahindra to launch the eKUV100, considering there is a need for an affordable EV. The eKUV100 will compete with the upcoming Tata Punch EV and the MG Air.

The eKUV100 essentially is an electric version of the KUV100. Mahindra revealed the eKUV100 at the Auto Expo 2020, so we already have a fair amount of information regarding the car. First, let’s talk about design. Overall the car is similar, barring some subtle changes. What are these changes? It gets blue inserts on the grille, tyres and headlamps. At the Expo, Mahindra revealed its specifications. It comes with a 15.9kWh battery pack paired with a 54bhp motor. It gets a claimed range of 147km. We expect Mahindra to improve these figures considering two years have passed since the Auto Expo 2020.

Mahindra’s electric plan

Mahindra wants to gain lost ground in the EV segment with its upcoming cars. On 15th August, Mahindra will be unveiling five new Born Electric cars. These are ground-up EVs which will showcase Mahindra’s capabilities in this new-age segment. After that, Mahindra could launch the much-awaited XUV400. For context, the XUV400 is the electric version of the XUV300 with bigger dimensions and more features. Mahindra is betting heavily on the XUV400 to revive its electric program in India.
