7 more Hyundai Creta rivals coming soon!
Hyundai Creta is the highest-selling C-segment SUV in the country. Offered in its second-generation avatar currently, Creta sells like hot cakes for Hyundai and continues to attract more customers with its loaded list of features & powertrain options. With Hyundai’s Blue Link technology (connected car tech), panoramic sunroof, plush interiors, and improved driving dynamics available, Creta proves to be a premium option. Since its initial launch in 2015, Creta has garnered healthy sales numbers, but with the growing segment, many cars got added to the list, giving tough competition to the Korean car. There are even more who are coming in now and let’s take a look at them. In today’s article, lets talk about 7 upcoming Creta rivals.
Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder
Toyota Kirloskar Motors has put up a new card on the table and they call it the Urban Cruiser HyRyder. It is Toyota’s product against Creta. Offered with Toyota’s well-known hybrid technology, it comes with Toyota’s 1.5-litre petrol Atkinson cycle engine that produces 114bhp. This Toyota-sourced engine comes paired with an e-CVT gearbox. Another powertrain option has been made available from Maruti Suzuki. Maruti’s1.5-litre petrol engine makes 103bhp and comes mated to a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed AT gearbox. The mild hybrid setup also offer AWD option.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara
Identical to the HyRyder, the Grand Vitara is Maruti’s version of the Creta rival. Featuring the same silhouette, there are design changes in the front as well as the rear when compared to the Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder. Maruti has planned the Grand Vitara in order to give almost all necessary features that its rivals get. A 9.0-inch infotainment system, 360-degree camera, fully digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and many more have been made available. Mechanically, the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder share the same underpinnings.
Upcoming Creta rivals – Mahindra XUV500
Mahindra has already confirmed that it will be bringing back the XUV500 nameplate. Mahindra may bring a new car that will sit below the Scorpio-N and can give competition to the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and others. Now, what will this car be? The new XUV500 is touted to be an extended version of the XUV300. Really? Yes. But here’s a twist. The Mahindra XUV300 is based on the SsangYong Tivoli platform. The Tivoli measured around 4.2m in length. To save on taxes and position a rival against compact SUVs, Mahindra had to reduce the length of the Tivoli. Now, this means that the XUV500 will come based on the original Tivoli platform.
Now, what about features? It will likely borrow features from the XUV700 and the Scorpio-N. A big touchscreen infotainment system, a fully-digital instrument cluster, auto-booster headlamps, premium sound system, etc. could be on offer. The XUV500 could resemble the XUV300 in some areas.
In terms of specification, it could mostly borrow the upcoming powertrain from the XUV300 Sportz variant. The Sportz variant will come with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that will make 128bhp & 230Nm of torque. Now these are some really impressive figures for a compact SUV. However, these figures are not groundbreaking if we go a segment above. And looking at Mahindra’s recent launches, the brand would definitely attempt to establish it dominance in the powertrain department. Can the new XUV500 borrow the 2.2-litre diesel engine from its elder siblings? Only time will tell. But we expect Mahindra to continue its trend of offering segment-leading engines with the XUV500 as well. The launch could be expected somewhere around 2025.
Tata Curvv
Tata’s Curvv concept is something to focus upon as it looks promising in terms of styling and dynamics. The production car could continue the coupe-like design just like the concept. As far as engine options are concerned, we expect the Curvv SUV to get a 1.5-litre petrol engine that Tata has been developing for Harrier and Safari. However, this SUV could sport a naturally-aspirated setup whereas the Harrier & Safari facelifts are expected to sport turbocharged setup. Diesel engine is expected to be shared with the Nexon, with some re-tuning. There are also talks of the EV counterpart of this vehicle. It is likely to get Ziptron technology and will hit the market before the ICE-powered Curvv. We expect the Curvv to see a launch sometime in 2024.
Upcoming Creta rivals – Honda SUV
Honda has been planning a Creta rival for quite some time now and their decisions on the Jazz, WR-V and the previous-gen City were an indication that something is cooking. Honda is expected to launch an SUV based on the RS SUV concept in the coming time. The concept looked chunky in terms of design so we expect the production variant also to get some defined wheel arches and aggressive styling. Features and specifications could be shared with the new generation City as this SUV is expected to come based on the City platform.
Jeep Creta rival
Jeep is willing to enter the hot-selling C-SUV segment with an affordable model. The car was recently spotted without camouflage in foreign markets. Jeep has always been known for its quality and off-road capabilities. Being a Jeep, there is no chance that this SUV would miss out on some sort of 4×4 or AWD system that would give it off-roading capabilities. As of today, no car in Creta’s segment offer AWD/4X4 capabilities, but this soon set to change with the Grand Vitara and the Urban Cruiser HyRyder.
Upcoming Creta rivals – New Renault Duster
Renault plans to bring the 3rd-generation Duster to India somewhere around 2024-2025. The new Duster will come based on the CMF-B LS platform. It would take design inspiration from the Bigster concept that is developed by Renault’s sister company Dacia. Renault wants to revive the Duster name in the country and wants to break new ground by even offering a 7-seater variant of the car. Though these are just speculations, only time will tell how Renault plans to relaunch the Duster in India.
