Tata Motors enjoys a healthy lead in the EV segment. The EV segment is still in its nascent stages, but Tata has clearly shown that a good product can work in this segment. Going forward, Tata plans to build ground-up EVs to enhance EV capabilities. But before that, it has plans to convert some of its existing ICE cars into EVs. So which Tata car will get this EV treatment next? It could be the Altroz or the Tiago, as Tata had displayed concepts of both cars. Tata might delay the Altroz EV, it could get a facelift before this variant arrives in the market. With this facelift, the Altroz EV could come with a new design. In today’s article, let’s talk about the whole scenario and could the Tata Altroz EV see a launch.

Tata Altroz EV – New design?

Altroz EV design

The Altroz has practically been the same since its launch in 2020. Tata has never updated this hatchback in terms of overall styling except for the special Dark Edition. The Altroz has already completed around two-and-a-half-years in the market. So, looking at Tata’s past update interval, we expect that the brand would be planning an Altroz facelift sometime in 2023 or beginning of 2024. There are chances that the Tata Altroz EV too could be launched sometime around the facelift’s launch (something that we saw with the Nexon facelift & Nexon EV). However, only time will tell what the brand plans for this hatchback.

Coming back to the design, overall, the Altroz doesn’t feel outdated. Tata can still give it a facelift to take on the Hyundai i20 and the new Maruti Baleno. In the facelift, Tata could give it a design more in-line with its SUVs like the Punch, Harrier & Safari. So could the Altroz get eyebrow DRLs? It could be a possibility. The brand could also change the rear with a connected tail lamp design. The EV might get blue highlights and Tata’s Signature Teal Blue colour.

Range & Battery

Tata Altroz EV launch

Tata has been quite tightlipped about the specifications of the Altroz EV. It could come with a 127bhp electric motor like the Nexon EV Prime. So, what battery options could it get? The Altroz could get a 30.2kWh battery pack just like the Nexon EV Prime. The Nexon EV Prime gets a claimed range of 312km. We can expect a slight improvement in the range figures for the Altroz EV due to better dynamics and lower kerb weight. The real-world range could be somewhere around the 250km mark.

Pricing

Currently, there are no electric hatchbacks in the country. So, Tata could take this opportunity to get a head start over the competition. What about the pricing? We expect the Altroz EV to start from somewhere around Rs 12 lakh to Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom).
