The SUV craze has firmly gripped the Indian market. Even Maruti, a manufacturer known for its hatchbacks, has started channeling its attention towards SUVs. Recently, Maruti unveiled the Grand Vitara which will enter the market to take on the Creta. Before the Grand Vitara, it also gave a major update to the Brezza. So are we going to see more SUVs from Maruti? YES. Maruti seems to be preparing an onslaught in the SUV segment with different products. It is already testing two new products which have been spotted in the country. So, what are these two new SUVs? That is exactly what we will discuss in today’s article.

The first product we are going to talk about is the Baleno-based SUV codenamed YTB. The YTB will be essentially the product version of the Futuro-e concept. The YTB has been in the news, but was recently spotted testing for the first time. So, what did the test mule come with? The spy shots revealed a big grille and eyebrow DRLs similar to the Grand Vitara. The side profile seemed more or less similar to the Baleno, but there are some visible differences like more ground clearance and a sloping roofline. What about its engine specifications? According to reports, Maruti could use the 1.0-litre Booster Jet engine on the YTB. Maruti employed this engine in the Baleno RS when it was on sale in the country. Coming back to the YTB, it is expected to be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2023.

Yes, you read that right. Maruti is testing the Toyota Yaris Cross in India. The car was spotted with an HR26 number plate near Maruti headquarters. For context, the Yaris Cross, as the name clearly suggests, is a crossover version of the Toyota Yaris. It is something similar to what Maruti is doing with the Baleno Cross. So why is Maruti testing the Toyota Yaris Cross? Maruti & Toyota could be testing some components on the Yaris Cross. Globally, the Yaris Cross comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a hybrid setup. Could Maruti actually be planning to rebadge it and launch in the country? Only time will tell.
