The Alto has been one of the most popular cars in India. It is known for its affordable pricing and easy maintenance. When launched in 2000, it had big shoes to fill in, thanks to the the iconic 800. Thankfully for Maruti, the Alto not only carried forward the legacy but strengthened it even further. So what’s next in Alto’s glorious career? The Alto is soon getting a major update. Recently, spy shots of the new-generation hatchback during an AD shoot were doing the rounds on the internet. Now, more details of the new Alto have emerged. Information about its variants and specifications is now out. However, Maruti has a plan in its mind; a plan to sell more Altos. In today’s article, let’s take a look at Maruti’s master plan to increase Alto sales.

New development

As mentioned above, Maruti is working on launching the new Alto. According to reports, the new Alto will be called the K10 Alto. Why K10? It will come with a 1.0-litre engine similar to the S-Presso. This engine will be capable of producing 66bhp & 90Nm of torque. The K10 will also get new updates over the current car. However, the biggest twist here is that Maruti will continue to sell the Alto 800 as well alongside the new one. The Alto 800 will cater to people looking for an affordable car, while the K10 will cater to people looking for more power and space. By offering variety, Maruti would definitely want to attract even more buyers to this hatchback.

What else do we know?

We already know that Alto will be getting a lot of exterior changes. From the spy shots, the Alto K10 seems to be bigger than the Alto 800. According to leaked documents, the K10 will be 3,530mm long, 1,490mm wide & 1,520mm tall. This would make the new one 85mm longer & 45mm taller than the Alto 800.

What about design? The leaked spy shots show a new squarish taillamp with a tailgate design similar to the old Celerio. The side profile also looks clean with not many cuts and creases. As mentioned above, Maruti is bringing back the 1.0-litre engine on the Alto. Maruti is expected to pair this engine to an AMT gearbox as well. If this happens, it could become the cheapest automatic car in India. What about features? The new Alto could come with all-power windows, digital instrument cluster, idle start-stop, etc.

New Maruti Alto – Launch and pricing

Maruti has already confirmed that it will be launching the new Alto on 18th August. Maruti wants to wrap up the launch before the festive season for acquiring maximum sales. What about the pricing? Now, this is where it gets tricky. According to reports, the K10 Alto will come in ten variants. Currently, the Alto starts from Rs 4.04 lakhs and goes to Rs 5.72 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai). We think Maruti could price the Alto K10 starting from somewhere around Rs 5.50 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai).
