MG Air EV
MG is gearing up to launch its affordable compact electric car in India. Wuling recently unveiled this EV in Indonesia and MG will be launching the rebadged version of this car in India. Expected to be called the Air EV, it will be a two-door compact EV. What about the range? It is touted to come with a maximum range of 300km. Like all MG cars, it will come loaded with features. MG Nexon EV Prime rival
MG is also working on bringing another affordable EV to fill the gap between the Air EV and the ZS EV. This will be a compact SUV like the Nexon EV Prime. With this being a more affordable option, it will come with downgraded specs when compared to the ZS EV. What could be the expected range? It could get a claimed range of around 350km. MG might also skimp on some features to price it aggressively.
Upcoming EVs under Rs 20 lakh – Citroen EV
CItroen is another manufacturer working on bringing an affordable option in this space. Citroen plans to launch an EV by 2023. We think this could be the electric version of the C3. Why do we think so? It will save Citroen a lot of investment and time. The electric SUV could get a real-world range of around 250km, making it a perfect city car.
Mahindra XUV400
Mahindra is making a grand comeback into the EV segment. It is doing so with an electric version of XUV300 called the XUV400. Why the name change? It will be bigger than XUV300 and also get more features. Mahindra is said to be using high-density NMC cells that will give it good range and performance figures. Seeing Mahindra’s recent launches, we can expect aggressive pricing on the XUV400. Moreover, it is expected to come with ADAS, something that will definitely give it an edge over the competition.
Tata Altroz EV
Tata is leading the EV race in the country, and it would definitely want to continue the momentum. Tata has found great success converting its ICE cars to EVs. The next car to get this treatment could be the Altroz. Tata has already showcased the Altroz EV at various auto expos. What about its range? The Altroz EV could get the same 30.2kWh battery like the Nexon EV Prime. This will give it a real-world range of around 250km. It is expected to be launched in the next few months.
Kwid EV
Renault is another manufacturer which can bring an EV in the coming times. In China, Renault sells the electric version of the Kwid. So could Renault bring it to India? There is no official confirmation from the brand, but the Kwid EV with its affordable pricing could attract a lot of buyers. The Kwid EV gets a claimed range of 260km, making it a great option for people driving in the cities.
Upcoming EVs under Rs 20 lakh – Tata Tiago
The Tiago could follow the Altroz with an EV version. Tata has also showcased the Tiago EV concept at various Auto Expos. Will it also get a 30.2kWh battery pack? Probably not. The Tiago EV could rather share its specifications with the Tigor EV. So it could get a 26kWh battery pack giving it a real-world range of around 200km.
Tata Punch
The Punch is touted to get an EV version in the future. Not much is known about the Punch EV, but it could get similar specifications to the Altroz EV. So, it could sport a 30.2kWh battery pack and get some new features. What about the launch? It could be launched by the end of 2023 or early 2024.
Hyundai-Kia EV
Both Hyundai & Kia are working on affordable EVs for the Indian market. Hyundai & Kia will do so by heavily localising the car. Both brands will bring ground-up EVs based on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform. What else do we know? In terms of design, both cars will get a unique design. Also, both brands will load their cars with features to take on the competition.
Upcoming EVs under Rs 20 lakh – Maruti mid-size electric SUV
Maruti & Toyota are working on a ground-up electric car for the Indian market. Maruti has codenamed the car YY8. According to reports, the YY8 will come with two-wheel and four-wheel drive options. What about the range? It is expected to get a maximum range of 500km. Also, Maruti will be looking to do heavy localisation on the YY8 to keep the costs down. What about the launch timeline? Reportedly, Maruti will mostly launch the mid-size EV around 2025.
