Tata Motors continues to enjoy a healthy lead in the EV segment. It already has three TVs, but Tata knows that it has to build on this head start. Earlier this year, Tata showcased the Curvv and Avinya concepts which are its ground-up EVs. But as Tata develops them, it wants to convert its existing cars into EVs as well. We have already seen that with the Nexon and Tigor. So which will be the next car to get this EV treatment? It could be the Altroz, which Tata has showcased at various Auto Expos. We know about the design and features, but what about the range figures of the Altroz EV? In today’s article, let’s talk about our expectations of the range and battery pack of the Tata Altroz EV.

Tata Altroz EV- Range & battery pack details

Tata Altroz EV range

As mentioned above, Tata has showcased the Altroz EV at various Auto Expos but Tata never shared its exact specifications. So, what battery option can it get? Tata has two options, a 26kWh battery pack like the Tigor EV or the 30.kWh battery pack like the Nexon EV Prime. A thing to note here is that Tata is also working on the Tiago EV, which is expected to share its mechanicals with the Tigor EV. The Altroz EV is a premium hatchback, so Tata would want to differentiate it from the Tiago EV. We thus expect the Altroz EV to get the 30.2kWh battery pack like the Nexon EV Prime. The Nexon EV Prime gets a claimed range of 312km, however, we can expect an improvement in the Altroz EV due to better dynamics and lower kerb weight. The real-world range could be somewhere around 250km.

What else to expect?

Like the battery, we expect the Altroz EV to share its motor with the Nexon EV Prime as well. It could come with an electric motor capable of producing 127bhp & 245Nm of torque. This motor will come with Tata’s Ziptron EV technology. What about the platform? The Altroz EV will continue on the Alfa-Arc architecture like its ICE-counterpart. In terms of design, we expect blue highlights on the exterior and the signature Teal Blue colour, which we see on the Nexon EV and Tigor EV. Feature-wise, it will get all the features of the top-spec Altroz with Tata expected to add some more to spice up the deal.

Launch timeline & pricing

So we have covered all the important details, but what about the launch? There is no official confirmation from Tata, but the brand had already declared that all the vehicles in its lineup are capable of going electric whenever the company wishes. Currently, there are no electric hatchbacks in the country. So Tata could take this opportunity and enjoy the first mover advantage in this segment. What about the pricing? Considering the pricing of the other Tata electric cars, we can expect the Altroz EV to be priced somewhere between Rs 12 lakh to Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom).
