New Maruti Alto – things you should be excited for!
The Alto is a car that everyone is familiar with in India. It is the go-to choice for many first-time buyers due to its affordable pricing and easy maintenance. When launched in 2000, it had big shoes to fill in, left by the iconic 800. It is safe to say it has not only done that but has also created its own legacy. The hatchback has remained the same for quite some time now, but Maruti is set to change it. The Alto will soon get a generational update. Recently, spy shots of the Alto during an AD shoot were doing the rounds on the internet. Considering all of this, the launch seems to be around the corner. In today’s article, we will talk about things you should be excited about the new Maruti Alto.
New look
The Alto seems to be getting a lot of changes in the exterior. From the spy shots, we do think the new Alto will be a bit bigger than the outgoing model. As for the design, the leaked spy shot did reveal the exterior of the new Alto. So what does it get? We can see a new squarish taillamp design with a tailgate design similar to the old Celerio. The side profile seems to be clean with not many cuts and creases. We don’t yet know about the front, but we can expect a new headlamp design and new bumpers.
New Alto specifications
The Maruti Alto currently comes with a 796cc engine. This engine is capable of producing 47bhp & 69Nm of torque. But pre-BS6, the Alto used to get a much more powerful 1.0-litre petrol engine. Maruti didn’t update this engine for the BS6 norms, but apparently, now there are rumours that Maruti will be bringing back this engine in the new Alto. This could be the same engine Maruti uses on the S-Presso. This engine is capable of producing 67bhp & 90Nm of torque. Maruti could even go one step further and introduce an AMT gearbox on this engine. If the AMT plan goes ahead, it could become the cheapest automatic car in India.
Added features
Features have become a vital part of the car buying decision for most buyers. Even in such an entry-level car, people will look for decent enough features. The new Alto could get new features like all-power windows, digital instrument cluster, rear wipers and idle start-stop. What about safety? Safety features will include dual airbags, reverse parking sensors, ABS + EBD and a speed alert system.
New Alto – Launch timeline
As mentioned above, the new Alto was recently spotted during an AD shoot. This could mean the launch is just around the corner. Maruti recently wrapped up the unveil of the Grand Vitara with a launch happening sometime in August. We expect Maruti to launch the new Alto first and then the Grand Vitara. A launch before the festive season will be quite beneficial for Maruti.
