Upcoming compact SUVs – Maruti Jimny 5-door
The Jimny is one of the most anticipated cars in India. For the market here, Maruti is developing a new 5-door version of the Jimny. So will the 5-door be a sub-four metre car? Yes, according to leaks and spy shots, it still seems to be a compact off-roader. Jimny as a product is known for its compact dimensions, and Maruti will look to retain that. When can we expect the Jimny 5-door here? It is expected to be unveiled at the Auto Expo of 2023 with a launch expected to follow soon.
Honda compact SUV
Honda’s first SUV will be a compact one, considering the popularity of the segment in the country. Reportedly, this new SUV will be based on the Amaze platform to make it affordable. Reportedly, Honda has already finalised the design of this new compact SUV. What about the engine options? It is expected to share its engine option with the compact sedan as well. So it could come with a 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine options. As for features, Honda will have to load it with them to take on the heavyweight in this segment. Honda is expected to launch the compact SUV sometime in 2023.
Maruti YTB
Maruti is doing an onslaught in compact SUVs, thanks to the Brezza. The YTB could be another upcoming Maruti car in this segment. So what is YTB? According to reports, Maruti is working on an SUV based on the Baleno. For now, the car is codenamed YTB, but the production car will get a different name. As for the product, it is expected to take on design elements from the Futuro-E concept. What about the mechanicals? It could share its engine options with the Baleno. As for features, it will get a lot of features to take on the competition.
Skoda compact SUV
Skoda has reinvented itself with its new product lineup in our country. Its ‘Project 2.0’ has concluded with cars like the Kushaq and Slavia. So what is Skoda’s plan after ‘Project 2.0’? Skoda has been actively studying future models based on the ‘MQB A0 IN’ platform under its ‘Project 2.5’. Under this, a compact SUV is its main priority. What will it get? The car is still in its initial stages of development, so we can’t speculate much. It could share some of its design elements and features with the Kushaq. It is expected to be launched sometime in 2023 as well.
