Maruti has been updating its fleet left and right. Today, the brand silently brought in an update for the S-Presso. It now gets the updated 1.0-litre K10C engine that offers impressive fuel efficiency along with some new features. Another car that is expected to get an update in the coming time is the Maruti Ignis. The Ignis will get a major update with a generation change. Why? The next-generation Maruti Ignis is expected to directly take on the Tata Punch. So, what will this Rs 6 lakh Maruti Punch rival offer? Everything in this article.

Design

The Maruti Ignis is denoted as ‘Urban SUV’ by the brand, justified by its high ground clearance and SUV-like looks. However, the Ignis would need some more meat to take on the Tata Punch. We expect the ground clearance to increase. More muscular body fenders are expected to enhance its road presence. Overall dimensions are expected to be improved as well.

Next-generation Maruti Ignis – Specifications

The new-generation Maruti Ignis could come powered by the brand’s updated 1.2-litre DualJet engine. This engine makes 88bhp & 113Nm of torque. With these specifications, the Ignis could easily take on the Punch. For reference, the Tata Punch makes 86bhp & 113Nm of torque from its 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine. As mentioned above, Maruti could increase the dimensions to enhance the Ignis’ aggressiveness. This engine will mostly come paired with a manual and an AMT gearbox.

Next-generation Maruti Ignis -Features

Now, features are very important. They can make or break a product in the modern age. Maruti for quite many years was lacking behind in this department but has now corrected this and is bringing cars with multiple new-age features. We expect the new-generation Ignis to borrow some features from the Baleno. A big touchscreen infotainment system, HUD and improved connected car tech could be some of them. Could Maruti offer 360-degree camera? Highly unlikely but Maruti can still hit a sixer if it decides to offer this.

Pricing & Launch

Maruti would be wrapping up some important launches this year barring the new-generation Ignis. We expect this updated product to see the light of the day by 2023 or 2024. As far as pricing is concerned, it could start from somewhere around Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom).
