If we take a look at the current EV ecosystem in the country, we realise that it is still in its infant stages and needs some more time & competition to mature. However, whatever the current scenario be, Tata Motors is leading the sales as it had a head-start, thanks to the brand’s quick thinking of converting its popular Nexon into Nexon EV. Is it safe to say that the growth in the EV ecosystem has actually received momentum thanks to Nexon? After applauding Tata for the Nexon EV, we need to tell you that this car is soon going to face a threat. And yes, not in some years but within the next two months. And that too from one of its prominent rivals, Mahindra. Mahindra is all set to bring its XUV400 to the market in September. This Mahindra Nexon EV rival could really prove to be a big threat, especially to the Nexon EV Max and ZS EV. How, you ask? Everything in this article.

How will the XUV400 be a threat?

From what past reports and spy shots have revealed, the Mahindra XUV400 is all set to come with 4.2m length. This means that the boot space is bound to increase when compared to the XUV300. This will definitely be a big boost to the electric SUV when placed against the Nexon EV. In terms of power output, the XUV400 is touted to come with a 150bhp electric motor. This is 7bhp more powerful when compared to the Nexon EV Max. Nothing has been confirmed regarding the range yet, however, we do expect Mahindra to offer competitive range figures when compared to the Nexon EV and Nexon EV Max. The higher-spec Tata EV offers a claimed range of 437km. The Mahindra XUV400 could offer somewhere around 450km of claimed range to establish its VFM quotient.

The XUV400 will come with tweaked design elements. The tail lamp design was already leaked and it has clearly been re-worked to give the XUV400 a unique appeal. We will mostly get to see new bumpers, EV-specific grille and alloy wheels. Apart from this, we expect this SUV to borrow some features from the Scorpio-N as well as XUV700. Is ADAS a possibility? Nothing can be confirmed but it definitely could be since no other competitor in its segment offers ADAS and Mahindra has really been betting big on features.

Pricing

As far as pricing is concerned, we expect the XUV400 to be positioned between the Nexon EV Max and the ZS EV. This means that we could see a starting price of somewhere around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). Are you excited for the Mahindra XUV400? Do let us know in the comments.
