The EV6 is currently Kia’s most advanced electric product in its lineup, not just in India, but globally as well. Now, Kia is working on an even bigger sibling to the EV6. So what is this car? The EV9 is based on the EV9 concept which was showcased last year. The EV9 has been spotted testing in South Korea, and it does retain the overall silhouette of the concept. So how big is the EV9? The EV9 is almost as big as the Telluride. The EV9 is often referred to as the Electric Telluride due to its big, boxy nature. What else do the spy shots reveal? Kia has definitely retained some elements from the concept. The spy shots reveal the vertically-placed DRLs. Moreover, Kia has tried to offer alloy wheels highly inspired by the concept car.

The Kia EV9 is based on Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform. The EV9 will share its version of the platform with the Hyundai Ioniq 7. What about the motor? The Kia EV9 could share its powertrain options with the Hyundai Ioniq 7 as well. Reportedly, the Ioniq 7 will be offered in single motor RWD and dual motor AWD variants, with the latter packing 308bhp. What about the range figures? Kia’s President Ho Sung Song has confirmed that the EV9 will offer a range of 540km and will be able to travel 100km in just 6 minutes of charging.

The Kia EV9 will be replacing the EV6 as the brand’s flagship electric vehicle. So, it will surely get that flagship treatment. There are reports that the EV9 could get a smart glass, new-age connected car technology, level 3 autonomous driving, Digital Key 3.0 with Ultra-Wideband technology and fingerprint reader, etc. There are also talks about the EV9 getting wireless vehicle charging. Yes, you heard that right, Hyundai is working on this technology. The Kia EV9 & Ioniq 7 could become the first car with this feature.

As mentioned above, Kia has started testing the production version of the EV9 in South Korea. According to the Korean car blog, the EV9 could debut sometime in September. South Korea could be its first market, followed by Europe and the USA. Will it come to India? There is no official confirmation, but we could see Kia bringing the EV9 in limited numbers, just like the EV6.
