Tata Nexon Design

The Tata Nexon is designed as a crossover. This is not very different from the concept shown at the Auto Expo. It takes a departure from the boxy styling and comes out more stylish and suave in the SUV segment. There is a large honeycomb front grille with humanity line. The headlamps seem like a part of  the grille. The LED DRLs are in the headlamp cluster.  The front bumper is quite large and the fog lamps are round with big bezels. The hood has a crowned look.

The side profile is very much like a crossover. It has three colours on it – a grey top and pillars, a white window line and then the body colour. The roofline slopes towards the rear. The rear also unique and very different from any other SUV in the market. The Tata Nexon will come with multiple colour options as well. The rear looks compact, and there is a neatly integrated rear spoiler also. The Nexon surely turns heads wherever it goes and looks really impressive and attractive.

Tata Nexon Colours

The Nexon is available in five colour options:

  • Moroccan Blue
  • Vermont Red
  • Seattle Silver
  • Glasgow Grey
  • Calgary White

Power 108bhp 108bhp
Torque 180Nm 260Nm
Transmission 6-speed manual, AMT
Steering Electric power assisted
Ground Clearance 200mm
Tyre Size 16-inch

The Tata Nexon comes both in petrol and diesel. It has a 1.2-litre turbo petrol that delivers about 108bhp of power and 180Nm of maximum torque. The Tata Tiago also uses the same engine, but it gets a turbocharger in the Nexon, for better performance. The power output is also higher. It comes mated to a 6speed manual transmission. This is something unique in this segment for a petrol vehicle.

The other engine is a 1.5-litre diesel engine that churns out about 108bhp of power and it comes with best-in-class torque of 260Nm. The diesel engine is the most powerful one in the segment and this also comes with a 6speed manual transmission. This engine is a four-cylinder one, unlike the three-cylinder one found on the Tiago. Both engines get multiple driving modes which are Eco, City and Sport. The Nexon is a front-wheel drive SUV and it does not have an AWD system.

Highway 19 km/l 16 km/l 18 km/l
ARAI Claimed 22 km/l 19 km/l 21 km/l

The Nexon delivers good fuel efficiency. As the petrol is similar to the Tata Tiago, it should return close to 13km/l in the city and about 17km/l on the highway. At the same time, the diesel engine will return about 17km/l in the city and 20km/l on the highway at least.

  • Jass V CVT petrol worth to buy?

  • Make in India to comptete with world’s class car maker. It looks like Range Rover from back side.
The price is yet to be open. Definitely, it will also surprise buyers.

TATA is going to sell world class cars from Tiago, Tigor and now Nexon.

If Mileage cross 20 KM/L in city driving condition, it will break all the record and production required more work force to supply in time.

    Best of Luck.

  • ground clearance is 209mm not 200mm as you have mentioned. Mileage information also might be wrong.

  • nice suv by tata but afordable ?

  • Though it is termed as a compact SUV , it has certain deficiencies. (1) It looks smaller. It is more a cross over than an SUV. The curved roof line towards the back makes it looks smaller in size. More over it agonises the entry to the rear side (2) The plastic quality is just average. Though it boast of a premium interior the lack of chrome finish on the dash makes it a bit out dated (3) The Wheel base also is not at par with Ecosport and hence the third passenger in the middle back seat will be experiencing a hell like experience with the A/c blower protruding back right before him/her. (4) The bucket like seat in the rear side is a flop for a vehicle of this segment as the vehicle is not intended to be 2+2 but 2+3. TATA ought to have taken care of the indian family setup before leaping forward.
