MG’s next car to take on Toyota!

The pickup segment is gaining momentum in India with the SUV craze. Earlier this year, Toyota launched the Hilux. Currently, the Hilux competes with the Isuzu. But looking at the growth, we can expect another manufacturer to enter this segment. This manufacturer is MG which has a pickup truck in its global portfolio. The pickup truck is called the Extender. In today’s article, we will talk about MG’s next car to take on Toyota.

Design

The Extender at first glance is a bold and muscular-looking car. It gets a huge grille with a lot of chrome adding to the bling factor. LED DRLs are placed higher with a three-step headlight near the bumper. The side profile looks like a typical pickup with a lot of curves and sharp lines.

The MG Extender is based on the Maxus T90 platform. What is special about it? The T90 platform is the upgraded version of the T60 platform, which underpins the Gloster. What about the engine specifications? Globally, the Extender comes with a 2.0-litre diesel engine capable of producing 159bhp & 375Nm of torque. This is the same engine that underpins the Gloster. 

Features

Features have become so important that they are vital even on such rugged cars. The Extender comes with features like a 10.0-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay. It will also get MG’s famed i-smart technology with remote lock-unlock, activate horn & lights and vehicle location features. What about safety? The Extender comes with lane-keep assist, stability control, TPMS, and hill assist.

When will MG launch the Extender? Sadly, MG has not confirmed anything about the launch of the Extender. But Toyota’s Hilux launch has ignited the pickup segment. So MG might be looking to enter this segment and compete with the Hilux. MG will look to undercut the Hilux as it did with Gloster against the Fortuner. MG can launch the Extender around the Rs 25 to Rs 28 lakh price range.
