Earlier this year, Maruti launched the new Baleno. The updated Baleno follows Maruti’s new ideology of features and improved design. Now Maruti is working on giving it another update in the upcoming months. So what will Maruti be updating? This update will be the addition of CNG variants to the Baleno. Maruti is expected to be working on CNG variants for this premium hatchback. In today’s article, we will be talking about the Maruti Baleno CNG.

Why CNG?

Maruti does have a void in its lineup due to the absence of a diesel engine. But the brand has made it clear that it will not bring the diesel engine back. So what is Maruti doing to fill this void? It is working on improving the fuel efficiency of its petrol engines. We have seen this with the new Baleno, Celerio, WagonR, Ertiga and XL6. But Maruti is already extracting maximum mileage from its petrol engine. So what is the next step? This is when CNG comes into play. CNG is not only cheaper than petrol and diesel, but it also gives better mileage. If Baleno gets a factory-fitted CNG, it will become the first premium hatchback to get it. Moreover, improved fuel-efficiency will further enhance its value-for-money quotient.

Maruti Baleno CNG – Will it get any changes?

Other than the added CNG tank, what other changes could the Baleno get? Design-wise, we don’t expect to see any changes since the brand already updated the new Baleno quite heavily. Only the boot will be compromised due to the CNG tank. What about engine specifications? The CNG will be paired with the same 1.2-litre engine capable of producing 88bhp & 113Nm of torque. With the CNG kit, the power figures are expected to drop a bit. The only new element would be the addition of CNG badging here and there.

Launch timeline and pricing

There is no official confirmation from Maruti regarding the Baleno CNG, but Maruti is rumoured to give all its cars a CNG option in the future. So we could definitely see a Baleno CNG in the coming time. What about the price hike? We can expect a price hike of Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000, depending on the variants.
