Who doesn’t know about the Maruti Alto in India? It is a car that has continued to go strong for the last 20 odd years. But as with everything else, change is needed in this world. So Maruti is working on bringing the new-generation Alto. It has already been spotted a few times in testing. So we do have a fair amount of idea about what the new Alto could offer. In today’s article, let’s talk about this Rs 6 lakh Maruti car.

Bigger dimensions

The new Alto will get refreshed exterior design. From the spy shots, it seems to be getting a more rounded design like the new Celerio. What else can we expect? Other regular changes like a new grille, headlamps and tail lamps are expected. Will it get alloy wheels like the new Celerio? Only time will tell.

Interiors and features

The new Alto is expected to get a reworked interior design. Still, the Alto is an entry-level car, and we can’t expect a whole lot of changes. It could get a better infotainment system, all power windows, digital instrument cluster etc. What about safety features? This is where we can see big changes. The government has made six-airbags mandatory for all cars from October. This has put Maruti in a very difficult position. Why, you ask? We have covered this in the article which you can check by clicking on the link below.

Rs 6 lakh Maruti car – New specifications

The new-generation Alto is expected to continue with an 800cc engine, however with slight updates done to the fuel-efficiency. So could the specifications be updated? Maruti can bring back the 1.0-litre K10C that it uses on the new Celerio. This engine is capable of producing 66bhp & 89Nm of torque. But another aspect of this engine is that Maruti can bring an AMT option back on the Alto. If that happens, it could become the cheapest automatic car in India. Would you consider an Alto AMT?
