Rs 20 lakh car to rival premium SUVs
The lifestyle SUV segment has seen a major spike in the last few years. But the segment still only contains compact off-roaders like the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha. So for someone looking for a big lifestyle SUV, the only option is the Jeep Wrangler. Thankfully, both Mahindra and Force are working on 5-door versions of their respective cars. But for today’s article, we will be sticking with the Thar 5-door. In today’s article, let’s talk about this Rs 20 lakh car that will rival premium SUVs.
Design changes
The Thar 5-door will be based on the 3-door version. So will it get the same exterior? No, we expect it to get some subtle changes. Mahindra could give it a different grille and slightly tweaked headlamps. Another thing we expect is the addition of chrome to add the bling factor. Other changes could include metal embossing on the doors, new side mirrors and a new alloy wheel design.
Rs 20 lakh car – Specifications
The Thar 5-door will mostly come with the same engine options as the 3-door version. So, it will continue with the 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine. Will Mahindra tune it differently? Most likely, Mahindra will increase the power to pull the extra weight. Transmission options could include a manual and an automatic option.
Features
Even in off-road vehicles like Thar, people want features. So what new features could the Thar 5-door get? Mahindra will be placing the Thar 5-door as a premium product. So to justify its pricing, Mahindra will have to add some new features. It could get a new dashboard layout with a bigger infotainment system. Other new features could include a 360-degree camera, wireless charging and automatic climate control.
Rs 20 lakh car – Launch timeline
Mahindra had greenlighted the development of Thar 5-door in 2021. So we expect the car to be in the mid-stages of its development. Also, Mahindra’s big-ticket launch for this year is the new Scorpio-N. So Thar-door could be launched somewhere in 2023.
Price
Currently, the 3-door Thar starts from Rs 16.26 lakh and goes to Rs 19.56 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). What will be a fair price increase? We think the Thar 5-door could be Rs 1 lakh to 1.5 lakh more expensive than the Thar 3-door. The price increase is considering the bigger dimension and new features.
