India has always been a price-sensitive market. So much so that in India most of the cars sold fall under the Rs 7 lakh segment. This is one of the reasons why Maruti dominates the Indian market. Even its Eeco sells well for its value for money coefficient. So why is Maruti bringing a new Eeco? The Eeco hasn’t received any update since its launch in 2010. New Eeco sits well with Maruti’s plan for modernising its lineup. According to reports, Maruti might launch the new Eeco by the end of this year. In today’s article, we will talk about the Rs 5 lakh Eeco that Maruti will replace this year.

New design

Maruti will not be giving a major exterior update. It will also retain the overall silhouette as it has been a tried and trusted design. So what will be different? We expect it to get some slight tweaks like a new grille and headlamp design. The side and rear profiles are expected to remain the same.

Rs 5 lakh Eeco – New specifications?

It is not particularly clear if the new Eeco will get updated engine specifications. Currently, the Eeco comes with a 1.2-litre engine capable of producing 73bhp and 98Nm of torque. What about the CNG option? In its CNG avatar, it produces 63bhp and 85Nm of torque. The Eeco comes with only a manual gearbox. Could Maruti add an automatic gearbox in the new Eeco? Only time will tell.

Rs 5 lakh Eeco – Features

The Eeco is geared more towards the commercial sector, so we don’t expect a load of new features. Maruti might give it features like a power steering, second-row captain seats, and a better dashboard layout. What about the safety features? Currently, the Eeco gets a driver airbag, ABS with EBD and reverse parking sensors. In the update, Maruti might give it more airbags to make it fall in line with the six airbag rule which is touted to come in effect from October.
