The Maruti Alto is one of the most affordable cars in India as of today. This is a main point of attraction for many buyers along with great reliability and hassle-free ownership experience that this hatchback offers. Many people thus consider the Alto as their first car. This is the reason why Alto is consistently on the list of 10 most selling cars in India every month. Now, Maruti is going to update this hatchback very soon. The spy shots are already available online and we have also covered them for you regularly. So, what will the new Alto offer? Also, what will its new pricing be? In this article, we have discussed the price of the new Maruti Alto along with other details.

The Alto currently starts from Rs 3.25 lakh and goes till Rs 5.03 lakh (ex-showroom). On-road, Mumbai prices touch Rs 3.85 lakh for the base variant whereas the top variant comes in at Rs 5.72 lakh. Now, since the new-generation car will be coming with many significant changes, we expect the pricing to see a considerable increase. The base variant of the new-generation Alto might start from somewhere around with Rs 3.80 lakhs (ex-showroom) and the top of the line variant might go upto Rs 5.50 lakhs (ex-showroom). So on-road, Mumbai, the lower trim might cost somewhere around Rs 4 lakhs with the top variant falling around the Rs 6.20 lakhs to Rs 6.50 lakh mark. As far as the launch is concerned, it is expected that Maruti might launch it in the second half of 2022. What would be your take if this turns out to be the final price of the New Maruti Alto.

Looks and Dimensions

The leaks have already revealed that the new Alto will come with a fresh design. The car will now come with a sharper, boxy design. At the front, we expect it to come with reworked headlamps, grille and bumpers. The rear is also expected to see some changes like new tail-lights and new bumpers. However, the biggest change is expected to be in the numbers. What numbers you ask? The dimensions. Although, everytime the Alto has been spied, it has been found covered with heavy camouflage. However, making out that this time around, the dimensions are bigger was not tough. With improved dimensions, the road presence of the Alto is expected to increase. However, it is also expected that the cabin space might increase. This would allow better shoulder-room and knee room in the cabin.

Interior and Features

The new Alto is expected to get a reworked dashboard to give it a fresh look. In terms of features, the new Alto could get an updated touchscreen infotainment system with some new features here and there. We might see a major update in safety features since India is soon set to make the six airbag rule mandatory. Could the new Alto come with six airbags? Nothing can be said as of now, since not long ago, R.C. Bhargava, Maruti Suzuki’s Chairman, expressed his concern regarding the six airbag rule as adding six airbags to cheap hatchbacks will significantly increase their cost, negating their whole sense of being cheap. So, we will have to wait to get the complete picture.

Engine and Chassis

The new generation Maruti Alto will be built on Suzuki’s Heartect platform. It will mostly continue to get a 0.8-litre petrol engine. However, we expect Maruti to update this unit it to offer more fuel efficiency. The new-generation Maruti Alto could also get the 1.0-litre K10C engine currently offered in the new Maruti Celerio which makes the powertrain of 66bhp & 89Nm of torque. Both the engines could get the CNG fuel option as well. Both 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearboxes are expected to be on offer.
