Mahindra had quite a head start in the EV segment. Its products like the Reva and eVerito were one of the initial participants in this race of future, even before most of the world was not thinking about electric cars. However, for various reasons, it could not capitalise much on this head start. Now, Mahindra is planning to strategically re-enter the EV segment with a slew of products. Earlier this month, Tata launched the Nexon EV Max. To compete with Nexon EV Max, Mahindra will soon be bringing the electric XUV300. So how will the electric XUV300 take on the Nexon EV Max? In today’s article, we will talk about this Rs 20 lakh Nexon EV Max rival which is coming this year.

What’s in the name?

Rs 20 lakh EV

Earlier it was speculated the electric version of the XUV300 would be called eXUV300. However, according to newer reports, it could be christened the ‘XUV400’. Mahindra thinks that both products will have a lot of differences that warrant a different name.

Bigger dimensions?

Mahindra has confirmed that the electric version will be not a sub-4m like the ICE version. The eXUV300 will be 4,200mm in length, similar to the original Ssangyong Tivoli. So, why is Mahindra doing this? As EVs already enjoy lower taxes, Mahindra wants to use that extra length to accommodate a bigger boot which is a weakness of the XUV300.

Rs 20 lakh EV – Specifications & features

Powertrain and battery details are limited for now. According to reports, it could get a motor capable of producing 150bhp. What about the range figures? Mahindra is said to be using high-density NMC cells that will give it better power and range figures than the Nexon EV Max. Considering how important XUV400 will be for Mahindra’s electric ambitions, it will come loaded with all the latest features and connected car technology.

Mahindra’s electric plans

Rs 20 lakh EV

The XUV400 will most likely be Mahindra’s first electric car for the modern market. Before its launch, Mahindra will be unveiling its ‘Born Electric’ concepts in June. Mahindra is planning to launch as many as seven EVs by 2027. Earlier this month, Mahindra also announced its intentions to partner with the VW group for electric components.
