New-generation Hyundai Verna – what to expect?
The sedan segment is facing an existential crisis in India. Buyers are preferring SUVs over sedans due to a slew of benefits, leading to their downfall. One sedan that apparently has seen success as well failure is the Hyundai Verna. But Hyundai as a brand would only want to see the successful side of things. This is the reason why Hyundai is updating the Verna? The Verna has gotten outdated compared to its newer rivals, so Hyundai is working on its new generation. Bigger dimensions
The new Verna will be bigger than the current model. How do we know it? From the spy shots, it is clear that this new-generation does look big. This extra length should translate to more second-row space, a weakness that does pull down the current model.
New-generation Verna – New design
Currently, we only have the spy shots of the new Verna in heavy camouflage. But there are a few takeaways from the overall silhouette. For starters, it will follow Hyundai’s latest ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language. It is thus expected to get a big grille that will integrate the headlamps within it. In the side profile, we will mostly get to see sharp lines that would give the new-generation sedan a very sporty look. At the rear, we might see a new, sharper tail lamp design similar to the new Elantra.
Mild-hybrid technology
Like other manufacturers, Hyundai will also be joining the hybrid bandwagon. Why are so many manufacturers bringing hybrid options? To counter the upcoming stringent emission norms. Coming back to the Verna, it is expected to continue with its 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine options, paired with a mild-hybrid setup. The hybrid setup, if brought in could help in delivering slightly improved fuel efficiency, something that buyers have become conscious of after the consistent hike in fuel prices.
New features
The current Verna misses out on a lot of features compared to its newer rivals. So Hyundai will have to cover that base in the next update. What kind of features could Hyundai add to the new Verna? We expect it to get a 360-degree camera, HUD and improved connected car technology. Some other important features could be added to take on the newer rivals more firmly.
New-generation Verna – Launch timeline
Hyundai is currently testing the new generation in Korea and India. So when will Hyundai launch it? Hyundai is expected to unveil the new Verna at the Auto Expo of 2023. So, we expect it to launch in India sometime next year. The new Verna will compete with newer sedans like the Skoda Slavia, the Volkswagen Virtus & also the Honda City.
