The lifestyle SUV segment has developed overtime. The new Thar has played a major role in this growth. However, the Thar is not practical for daily use. To counter this, Mahindra is working on a bigger and more practical version called the Thar 5-door. We have been hearing about it for a long time, but when is it actually coming? When is it coming?

Mahindra had greenlighted the Thar 5-door for development back in 2021. We expect the car to be in the mid-stages of development. So can Mahindra launch the Thar 5-door in 2023? This could really be a possibility since this year is marked for the Scorpio. And looking at Mahindra’s track-record, every year they bring out one product that completely takes the market by storm and breaks multiple records. 2021 was for XUV700, this year would be for the Scorpio-N. The next year could be a possibility for 2023.

What can we expect from the Mahindra Thar 5-door?

So will Mahindra give it a different design than the 3-door Thar? We think Mahindra wkeep the overall appeal of the Thar same, however, it might get a different looking grille and slightly tweaked headlamps. Mahindra could also update the bumpers and fenders. The side profile will get the biggest makeover due to the extended dimensions. Other changes in the side profile could include metal embossing on the doors, different side mirrors and a new alloy wheel design. At the rear, it could get slightly tweaked tail lamps as well. As mentioned above, Mahindra will be placing the Thar 5-door as a premium product. To justify this premiumness, Mahindra will have to add new features. It might get a bigger infotainment system and a new dashboard layout. Mahindra might also give it a 360-degree camera, wireless charging and automatic climate control.

Pricing

As far as pricing is concerned, the Thar 5-door could be placed at a premium of Rs 70,000 to Rs 1 lakh over the regular 3-door variants. Currently, the Thar 3-door variants come in at Rs 16.26 lakh and goes to Rs 19.56 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
