MG is a relatively new brand for India since it debuted in 2019 only. However, irrespective of this, the brand has managed to step a strong foot in the country, thanks to its well-laid out strategy and product lineup. The Hector was the very first product from MG India. After that, the brand targeted the electric SUV space with the ZS EV and the full-size seven-seater space with the Gloster. The brand recently updated the ZS EV facelift. Now, the next plan for MG could be to enter the hatchback segment with the MG 3. The hatchback is already on sold in the UK and the company might launch it in India as well, looking at the demand and competition in the market. In this article, we have shared all the information we know about this Rs 7 lakh MG car.

Design

The MG 3 is a premium hatchback in all its character. Taking a look at the globally-available car, the MG 3 looks very simple yet purposeful. We can see a lot of resemblance with the MG Astor when the front fascia is taken into consideration. Projector headlamps, LED DRLs and halogen indicators are present at the front. The rear is also simple with long-tail lamps. Do you think this design is enough to take on competitors like the Hyundai i20, the Maruti Baleno/Toyota Glanza and the Tata Altroz, at least on the design front?

Features

MG 3 would be a loaded hatchback when it comes to features. Features like an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a six-speaker music system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and connected car features could be made available to the buyer if this car is brought to India. MG does give a lot of attention to safety. Standard safety features like dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, front seat belts with pre-tensioner and load limiter, reverse parking sensors, ISOFIX, headlamp levelling, seatbelt reminder along with a few others could be on offer to take on a segment-rival like the Tata Altroz.

Rs 7 lakh MG car – Engine Specifications

Globally, the MG 3 gets a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that makes 110bhp & 150Nm of torque. But India has different taxation norms for sub-four-metre cars. So, MG might have to get a lower displacement engine like 1.2-litre unit. However, to achieve the same power figures, the brand might have to then couple this engine with a turbocharger to take on the rivals.

Rs 7 lakh MG car – Pricing & Launch

The MG 3 being a premium hatchback could get a price tag that could start from somewhere around Rs 7 lakhs (ex-showroom). If MG launches it in India, it would face competition with Maruti Baleno, Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz, Toyota Glanza, and the upcoming Citroen C3.

Now, what about the launch? See, MG, when it entered India, made clear its plans of focusing on SUVs only, since that was the market they wanted to target here. Hatchbacks were not a part of their initial plan and this is the reason why we have not seen anything other than SUVs from the brand. However, what if they update their strategy? Only time will tell this if the brand actually wants to focus on something else other than SUVs or wants to strictly stick to their original plan. Whatever the case be, we will have to wait for MG to give any update regarding this and only then can we expect this hatchback, or rather any hatchback from the brand.
