Tata has a firm hold in the SUV space. The Nexon rules the compact SUV space, whereas the Harrier and Safari also give tough competition to the rivals. Tata has made it a habit of regularly updating its products to stay abreast the competition. When the Harrier was first launched, it revolutionised people’s perspective of how they looked at cars from this Indian brand. The Harrier was an important pillar in establishing Tata’s strong foot in the design department. Last year, Tata on the same lines of the Harrier brought in or rather brought back the Safari. The Safari stepped in the six/seven-seater SUV space. Tata has regularly brought in updates or special variants for all its SUVs. Today, we will specifically be looking at the Harrier and the Safari. Both the cars are going to get a facelift next year as confirmed by sources. In this article, we have mentioned every information that we have about the facelifts of both these cars as well as the new features that Tata is planning to bring to them.

New Features

Features are something that excite most modern-age buyers. Every other buyer today wants his/her car to be loaded with all the bells & whistles that are there to offer. Tata knows this and is bringing in some significant upgrades to the feature list. From our sources we got to know that Harman is working on a new infotainment system for the facelifts. This system would also support 360-degree parking camera setup. More importantly, both these cars would be getting some sort of ADAS technology as well.

Fresh Design

Since both cars are only receiving facelifts, the dimensions of the car are expected to be the same. The facelifts are however said to come with new headlamps and new front grille design. A reworked tail lamp could also be offered to give both these SUVs a fresh appeal holistically. Other changes like new bumpers and new alloy wheels are also expected.

More capable

The Harrier and Safari facelifts would be getting new reworked suspension setup. The suspensions will now be tuned for better off-road performance. This is an important step in the right direction considering the Safari’s legacy.

Harrier and Safari facelift – New Engine options

Harrier and Safari facelift

The Harrier and Safari facelift would continue to get the 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine. This engine makes 168bhp & 360Nm of peak torque. However, the big news here is that Tata is working on a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine for both SUVs. We expect this unit to make around 150bhp since most competition does play around the above-mentioned power mark. With a petrol engine on offer, Tata could easily expect to see an increment in buyers of these SUVs.

Harrier and Safari facelift – Price and Launch

Harrier and Safari facelift

Currently, Tata Harrier starts at Rs 17.87 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai), and Safari starts at Rs 18.59 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai). So, with the petrol engine being touted to be added to the facelifts, we expect that prices of lower trims might be increased by 50,000 to Rs 70,000 whereas the prices of top trim with the premium features could be increased by Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh. With the addition of petrol variants, the starting price of both these cars could go down. The cars are touted to see a launch early next year.
