Kia Carens has gained quick fame since its launch here. It has come out as the most feature-rich MPV in that segment. However, the launch of the new Ertiga has posed some threat for the Carens. Previously, Maruti offered Ertiga CNG on a single variant, however, this time they have extended it to one more variant. This could be the reason why Kia is planning a few new variants to take on the rival. Kia is touted to be coming up with a CNG Carens. Recently, the Carens CNG was spotted testing. So, we expect that there will be an option for CNG very soon. In this article, we have listed all the information we know about the Kia Carens CNG.

Design

Since the Kia Carens was recently launched, we don’t expect to see any changes done to the design of the car. The only difference that we could get to see is CNG-specific badging on the MPV. Although, most dimensions will remain the same, the boot space will take a hit due to the added tank.

Engine

We expect the CNG kit to be mated to the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. This engine makes 113bhp & 144Nm of torque, however, we expect the power figures to drop due to CNG. On the contrary to all of this, we also spotted a Sonet CNG undergoing testing. However, the Sonet on test was powered by the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit. So, could Kia actually be working on mating the CNG setup with a turbo-petrol unit? Only time will tell but it will really be exciting if Kia manages to do so.

Kia Carens CNG spotted – Mileage

Although exact figures cannot be predicted, but the CNG setup would offer better mileage than the conventional setup. For reference, the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine gives 15.7 kmpl while the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine gives a claimed mileage of 16.2 kmpl. So with the CNG kit, the Carens would be more pocket friendly and easy to maintain, just like the Ertiga CNG.
