Hatchbacks have always been the preferred choice in India. Hatchbacks currently make up 40 to 45% of the total car sales in our country. Another segment that is picking up in India is electric cars. But currently, we have no electric hatchbacks. Tata can change that by launching the Altroz EV. Volkswagen is another manufacturer that can bring an electric hatchback called the e-UP. In today’s article, we will discuss Volkswagen’s first possible EV hatchback in India.

Volkswagen’s EV – Design

The Volkswagen Up comes with a simple but practical design language. Its compact dimensions give it a cute look. At the front, we have a sloping bonnet with a small grille flanked by rectangular headlamps. Then we have LED DRLs on the bumper. The side profile is kept simple with no cuts and creases. At the rear, we have a blacked-out tailgate with cylindrical-shaped tail lamps.

Specifications

The UP also comes with petrol engine options. But we think Volkswagen is most likely to bring the EV version to India. The e-UP comes with a 32.3 kWh battery delivering a range of 260km on a single charge. The e-UP can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 12.4 seconds and has a top speed of 130kmph.

Will it come to India?

There is no official confirmation from Volkswagen regarding the UP. But considering the rising demand for electric cars, it could bring the UP to India. Currently, this segment has no cars in India. But still, Volkswagen will have to price the e-UP competitively to sell in good numbers.
