SUVs are consistently dominating the monthly sales charts along with hatchbacks. Most manufacturers have already ventured into the SUV space and have launched SUVs in different sub-segments. Honda was not prepared for the sudden surge in SUVs and took a backseat when it came to bringing affordable options. However, the brand is working on bringing new options in this category here. In today’s article, we will discuss Honda’s new Hyundai Creta competition.

What will it be?

This SUV will be a completely new one, built for the Indian market. This new SUV is expected to be based on the Honda City platform. So it will also share a lot of design elements with Honda City. Dimension-wise it is expected to be somewhere between 4.1 metres to 4.3 metres.

This SUV will share its engine options with Honda City. So it is expected to come with a petrol and a diesel engine option. The petrol engine could be the 1.5-litre unit capable of producing 119bhp & 145Nm of torque. This engine will mostly come mated to a six-speed manual and a CVT gearbox. The second engine will be a 1.5-litre diesel unit capable of producing 98bhp & 200Nm of torque. It comes mated to a six-speed manual and a CVT gearbox. Honda might even offer its 1.5-litre hybrid engine, but it is too early to say anything about this for sure.

The C-SUV segment is filled with feature-rich cars. So we can expect the same on this Honda SUV. It could get features like leather upholstery, six-airbags, ABS + EBD, traction control, a fully-digital instrument cluster, a big infotainment system, electronic parking brake, panoramic sunroof, etc. Honda might also give it the Honda Sense, the brand’s Advanced Driver Assistance System.

This Honda SUV will take on cars like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Nissan Kicks and MG Astor. The launch of the Honda SUV is expected to happen by 2023.
