CNG in compact SUVs
Most of the cars in this segment come with diesel engine options. But with stricter emission norms on diesel engines, people are shifting to CNG kits on their cars. Now, there are no compact SUVs with factory-fitted CNG kits. So people go the aftermarket way.
CNG on the turbo-petrol engine
Putting a CNG on a turbo engine is quite a complicated process. A turbo engine on a petrol car results in additional air intake boosting the power output. So just adding a CNG kit to a turbo engine will never work. The control module of the CNG needs to be recalibrated with the turbo engine. Some people have put CNG on turbo engines, but this leads to higher carbon deposits on the engine if not done correctly. Also, it might lead to higher maintenance costs wiping out the savings you made on the running cost.
So should you put such a kit?
In conclusion, you can put an aftermarket CNG if you have a naturally aspirated engine. But still, it will provide sluggish performance. In turbo engines, it is a completely different ball game. Just adding a CNG kit might not work, as is the case in other vehicles. If you want a factory-fitted CNG kit on a compact SUV, you can wait for the upcoming new Brezza.
