The move toward electric vehicles is slowly gaining momentum in India. Several car manufacturers are launching or developing their electric vehicles. Renault is also working on bringing the Kwid in its EV avatar to India. As a product, the Kwid is quite popular, so this can help its EV version bring in more sales for the brand. The Kwid EV looks identical to the Kwid facelift currently available in India. Renault might give it some blue highlights along with EV badging. It might get more ground clearance to tackle the Indian roads. High ground clearance will minimise the chance of underbelly scrapping speed breakers. The Kwid EV is expected to get some extra features in order to attract customers.
Specifications
The Renault Kwid will come with a 45bhp electric motor paired with a 26kWh battery. This will give the car a range of around 260km, which will be quite impressive for an entry-level electric car. Even if it could translate into a real-world range of 200km, it would be very practical for most people. It requires 50 minutes to charge from 0% to 80%.
Affordable electric vehicle – Price
In China, the car is priced at $9,000, which converts into Rs 6.70 lakh. If Renault can launch the Kwid EV at this price range in India, it will be the cheapest electric vehicle in our country. To keep the prices down, Renault could take help of heavy localisation.
