The EV space is slowly developing in India and is expected to become a major EV market in the upcoming years. This is one of the reasons why a lot of global manufacturers are eyeing the Indian car market. Tesla, the biggest EV manufacturer, is also working to enter the Indian market. But before Tesla, we might see another American EV brand enter the Indian market. This American brand is Fisker Inc. In today’s article, we will see a global manufacturer coming before Tesla.
What is Fisker’s long term plan?
Fisker Inc, a Californian-headquartered electric car company, founded and led by acclaimed car designer Henrik Fisker. It recently revealed its two electric car models, Ocean and Pear. The initial focus of the company will be on the US and Europe. Then the brand is expected to focus on the Indian and Chinese markets.

Before it launches the brand in India, it is setting up a global technology centre in Hyderabad. The company has already started hiring for this centre and plans to hire 300 engineers primarily working on software technologies. It is also looking to set up a production base in India with Foxconn. This partnership is looking to manufacture Pear in the US, Europe, India and China. The brand has not yet decided on the location of the manufacturing plant. Fisker is looking to manufacture in India so that it can price its car competitively. It is looking to play the volume game by manufacturing a million vehicles a year.
Sustainability pitch
Along with the electric technology, Fisker Inc. pitches itself as a maker of vehicles with high sustainability quotients. For example, the Ocean has vegan interiors. It also comes with carpets and floor mats made of recycled fishing nets fished out of oceans. The company has set a target of 2027 to produce a carbon-neutral vehicle.
