Tata Motors has recently launched Tiago CNG and stepped into the fuel-efficiency-driven segment of CNG-powered hatchbacks. The Tata Tiago iCNG gets a Revotron 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 72bhp & 95Nm of torque mated to a five-speed manual gearbox while the Maruti Celerio CNG gets a K10C 1.0-litre petrol engine that produces 56bhp & 82Nm of torque mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The Tata Tiago outnumbers the Maruti Celerio on paper with power & torque figures. In real life scenario, the Tiago is much more powerful and has a refined engine that performs well in the city as well as on the highway.  The rear suspension of the Tiago is fine-tuned to carry the extra load of the CNG kit.

The Tata Tiago comes loaded with features the top-end variant gets a seven-inch touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, Four speaker and four tweeters sound system, tilt-adjustable steering wheel, 14-inch wheels, adjustable headrest for front row seats, and chrome elements on door handles.  Maruti Celerio  VXi CNG gets a basic music system.

The Tata Tiago won’t start if the fuel lid is open, this is an additional safety feature provided to avoid any mishaps due to the open fuel lid at the petrol pump or while driving. The Tiago gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and corner stability control across all variants, while Maruti Celerio CNG gets only ABS and dual airbags as safety features. The Tata Tiago petrol variant has already scored a four-star safety rating at the global NCAP testing so you need not worry about the car’s safety standards.

Currently, the Tata Tiago CNG gets five variants with more features, the base variant XE CNG is priced at 6.95 lakh, the XM CNG variant is priced at Rs 7.28 lakh, XT CNG is priced at 7.61 lakh, XZ Plus CNG is priced at Rs 8.53 lakh, and the top-end variant XZ Plus CNG with Dual Tone is priced at Rs 8.66 lakh. While the Maruti Celerio comes with only one variant ie VXi CNG priced at Rs 7.42 lakh (All prices mentioned are on-road, Mumbai).
