Maruti’s upcoming micro-SUV, the Ignis will be launched by late 2016. The Ignis will be the first of its kind car from Maruti and will compete with the upcoming Mahindra KUV100
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis, which is codenamed YJC, is being testing currently and will be coming with an all-new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder diesel engine. This engine is based on the twin-cylinder 800cc engine of the Celerio and will be producing about 70bhp of power. The Ignis will also be exported from India as Maruti will be the global hub for manufacturing this car.
The Ignis will be showcased at the Auto Expo 2016. Maruti is getting more aggressive in the smaller car segment as well. This segment has begun to re-define itself, since the launch of the Renault Kwid and now with the announcement of Mahindra KUV100.
The Ignis is likely to feature a start-stop system which Suzuki calls the SHVS or Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki, recently seen in the Ciaz and Ertiga. The Ignis will also be made in a 4×4 version, that will be exported to Europe and will compete with the Fiat Panda 4×4. However, this version will not be sold in India. The Ignis will be sold through the premium Nexa showrooms.
