The fact that SUVs have become the hottest vehicle type in the market today is hidden from none. Moreover, with the segregation of SUVs into multiple segments, they now fit the budget of many more buyers. Keeping that in mind, we have curated a list of 10 upcoming SUVs that you can consider under Rs 10 lakh.
Jeep Junior
Jeep has always been known as an SUV-making brand. The strong SUV roots of the brand are currently being used to develop an affordable SUV for the global market. With context to the Indian market, this SUV will fit in the compact SUV space here. Although multiple brands already have their presence in this space, the Jeep compact SUV will be the first one to offer 4X4 capabilities. Technically, Jeep will achieve this by using its 4Xe technology.
Moving to other technicalities, the SUV will share its platform and possibly even engine with the upcoming Citroen C3. The Jeep compact SUV will be a premium offering for buyers with all the modern tech & features loaded. The car is expected to start somewhere around Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom).
SUVs under Rs 10 lakh – Maruti YTB
Maruti is expected to be working on a new compact SUV for the Indian market. This particular product will be a coupe-style SUV, something that will be first for Maruti as well as for the segment. This coupe SUV will sit above the Maruti Vitara Brezza and will be a premium offering to tackle the higher variants of products like Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue.
This new compact SUV will mostly come powered by the brand’s 1.5-litre petrol engine and will be underpinned by the Heartect platform. We are confident that this car will be feature-loaded since it will be positioned above the Vitara Brezza and the new Vitara Brezza in itself will come loaded with multiple modern features. We expect the pricing of this car to start somewhere around Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom).
New Maruti Vitara Brezza
Maruti is ready to take on the compact SUV space with its updated Vitara Brezza. Although the Vitara Brezza lacked multiple elements that the competition had on offer, for instance, diesel engine options, varied transmission options, modern features like wireless charging, fully-digital instrument cluster, sunroof, etc, the car still did great sales for the brand every month due to some strong elements like reliable engine, high safety standards and the usual benefits of the Maruti badge. However, the story is set to change very soon.
The all-new Maruti Vitara Brezza will enter the market with sharper design elements and modern features (sunroof, paddle shifters, large touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging, etc.) to give it an edge over the competition. The engine, although being the same 1.5-litre petrol unit, will now come paired with a much more efficient hybrid system that will enhance the overall value-for-money proposition of this product. We expect the new Vitara Brezza to come with close to Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000 price hike over the current one.
Hyundai Venue facelift
Hyundai Venue has been one of the top-selling products for Hyundai ever since its launch in the market here. The car offers various engine & transmission options and multiple modern features that position it as a relatively strong player in the segment. However, looking at the competition, the car feels outdated in terms of styling and the features available onboard. Hyundai is soon planning to bring a facelift for the Venue, the spy shots of which are already being circulated in the market. The facelift is expected to fill all the voids that the current car leaves. Updated features, addition of some segment-first features and new sharper design will be the key highlights of this update.
SUVs under Rs 10 lakh – Maruti Jimny
Maruti is also set to foray into the lifestyle SUV space with the Jimny in the coming time. The Jimny will be sub-four-metre and will be offered with a five-door layout here. The global markets already have the Jimny on sale but in a three-door layout. The Jimny for India is being updated keeping in mind the requirements of buyers here and the overall value-for-money aspect.
The Jimny will come powered by the brand’s 1.5-litre petrol engine and will cater to buyers looking for a unique product that offers space along with practicality. We expect the Jimny to start somewhere close to Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom).
Next-generation Tata Nexon
Tata Nexon is the hottest car in the brand’s stable these days. The Nexon gives tough competition to products like Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza, etc. by offering high safety, modern features and powerful engines. The car has played a major role in helping Tata overtake Hyundai to become the country’s second largest carmaker in December 2021.
The Nexon is also set to receive a generation update in the coming months. The next-generation Tata Nexon will see elements like a new platform, re-tuned engines, new transmission options and some more modern features being brought to it.
SUVs under Rs 10 lakh – Hyundai Micro SUV
Hyundai was expected to bring the Casper to India soon after its launch in some global markets. However, the plan could not see its light then. However, the brand is now set to be working on a micro SUV codenamed ‘Ai3’ for India that will help Hyundai take on the Tata Punch. We expect the new micro SUV to borrow some of its elements from the Casper and come personalised, keeping in mind the requirement of Indian buyers. Although no major details of this SUV are available yet, we expect it to come with multiple segment-first features that will help this micro SUV take on the Tata Punch. This SUV is touted to launch sometime in 2023. We expect the pricing to be similar to that of the Tata Punch in order to heat up the competition.
Mahindra Bolero facelift
Mahindra Bolero has consistently been the top-selling product in the brand’s portfolio for quite some time now. High reliability coupled with rugged looks give the Bolero a strong position in the market. To give this SUV a fresh appeal, Mahindra is set to bring a facelift for the Bolero soon. New dual-tone colour options, new front grille, new headlamps, new bumpers, etc. are some of the changes expected with the facelift. With that being said, no major changes are expected on the Bolero facelift.
Next-generation Mahindra Scorpio
Mahindra Scorpio is one of the very few iconic nameplates today that has managed to maintain its charm in the market till date. The car is highly regarded for its powerful engines, rugged nature and muscular road presence. With that being said, with changing trends, the Scorpio needs an update, and this is what Mahindra is doing. The brand is already testing the next-generation of Scorpio which is expected to launch sometime this year.
The car will come loaded with modern features like an electric sunroof, semi-digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, etc. Also, the new Scorpio is expected to come with powerful engines. The petrol engine is expected to be borrowed from the Mahindra Thar whereas the diesel engine is expected to be borrowed from the newly-launched XUV700’s base variant. Looking at the pricing of the XUV700, the new Scorpio is expected to start somewhere around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
Mahindra XUV300 facelift
Mahindra XUV300 will also receive a facelift in the future. We expect the car to come loaded with more modern features that will be borrowed from the upcoming Scorpio as well as the XUV700. Also, Mahindra is already working on a powerful turbo-petrol engine that will be capable of producing close to 130bhp & 230Nm of torque. Apart from this, changes to the centre console and dashboard will be done in order to give the car a fresh appeal. Other updates include revised headlamps & tail lamps, new bumpers and new alloys.
