Diesel engines have always been a popular choice due to their ability to offer more torque and great mileage. But diesel has always been a threat to the environment. It releases a lot of toxic gases compared to petrol. A lot of countries charge hefty taxes on diesel engines to discourage their use. But the plus points of diesel engines cannot be ignored. So manufacturers are working on ways to reduce emissions. Adblue is one such innovation that greatly reduces the emission levels on diesel engines. In today’s article, we will see does your car have AdBlue? 5 things to know.

What is AdBlue?

Cars with AdBlue

AdBlue is a registered trademark owned by the German association of the Automobile Industry. AdBlue is basically a liquid that is used to treat harmful exhaust gases. It suppresses harmful pollutants like Nitrogen Oxides before they are released from the exhaust. It is a clever way of not hampering the engine performance at the same time also protecting the environment.

How does it work?

The AdBlue is stored in a tank in the car. But as mentioned above, it is fed into the vehicle’s exhaust system. AdBlue is made up of deionized water and high purity urea. It is colourless in nature and converts harmful exhaust gases into harmless nitrogen and steam.

How long does it last ?

The tank size that holds the AdBlue varies according to model and manufacturers. Its consumption depends on the size of the car and driving style. The lesser the fuel is burned, the lesser the use of AdBlue.

When to refuel the AdBlue??

The car instrument cluster will flash a tale-tell warning when the AdBlue falls below a certain limit. It is better to get it refuelled as soon as possible, or your car will refuse to start. You can fill the Adblue yourself if needed. Many garages and filling stations sell portable containers of AdBlue.

AdBlue and warranty

You should always use branded AdBlue solutions in your car. Considering it is a trademarked product, it must comply with certain standards that vehicle manufacturers rely on. A duplicate Adblue solution can invalidate your warranty.
