Tata Motors has been garnering high praises for its aggressive product strategies. It has been expanding its product lineup by creating new segments. It currently leads the electric vehicle market in India. Tata wants to continue this movement by bringing in more electric vehicles. Tata recently established a new subsidiary TPEML (Tata Passenger Electric Mobility LTD), to spearhead its electric charge. According to a report by Autocar India, Tata is developing a bigger, all-electric coupe version of the Nexon EV. In today’s article, we will see if this car could become as successful as the Hyundai Creta.

Nexon EV Coupe design

The Nexon EV coupe will be a stretched out version of the current Nexon with a coupe design language. The Coupe will be based on the X1 platform as the current Nexon. Front three-quarters of the car will remain identical to the Nexon, while the rear is expected to get a tampering roof to provide more interior space. Dimensions wise, it is expected to be 4.3m in length and 50mm bigger wheelbase than the Nexon. Tata is also expected to give it a sportier design with the Coupe characteristics.

Expected powertrains

Tata is expected to launch the pure EV version first. It is expected to get an electric motor like the Nexon EV with a bigger 40kWh battery pack. Tata might also give it a new electric motor as the electric tech advances in the coming years. Later on, Tata is expected to bring IC engine variants to the Nexon coupe. It is expected to get a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine which Tata is developing internally. The Nexon Coupe is also expected to come with the company’s tried and tested 1.5-litre diesel engine. Tata might retune the engine to produce more power for the Coupe.

Nexon EV Coupe Expected launch

Tata was expected to unveil the Nexon coupe concept at the 2022 Auto Expo. But due to the pandemic, the Auto Expo has been cancelled, so it remains to be seen if Tata will reveal the concept this year. The market launch of the Nexon Coupe is expected only after 2023.
