Renault Kwid 1.0 and Renault Kwid AMT, these are two new entrants. Kwid was launched with a 80cc engine and this had turned around the market. Renault recently got the new Kwid in the market. With time it introduced new engine and then AMT technology also. The Kwid revolutionised the Indian car market. Where the Kwid stood out was its design, space, features from the competition.

Renault Kwid has 180mm of ground clearance. The looks are butch too. There is body cladding. Kwid has one of the best in class space and practicality. The boot size at 300 litres is the largest in its segment. The first car in this segment to offer a touchscreen system. What the Kwid doesn’t have in its favour is the network, brand awareness and the resale value like Maruti Suzuki. The Kwid now even gets a 1.0-litre petrol engine churning about 67bhp of power. This engine comes with five-speed manual and even AMT too. The Kwid AMT is available only with a 1.0-litre engine.

There has been a change in the pricing of the Kwid after GST and there is no difference in the pricing with the recent increase in cess. In terms of design, there is no major differentiator between the Kwid 1.0 and Kwid 800cc. The only thing that looks different is the chequered flag on the rocker, which is black on the 800cc. The AMT gets Easy-R badging as well. The same 13-inch wheels are used on the Kwid. The mirrors on the new Kwid have been changed. Now, the frame is fixed.
