The next generation BMW X1 will be an all-new design which is different from the current one and will appear like a proper SUV. While there was a buzz that it will be a longer version of the SUV too, the drawings of the longer wheelbase version have been leaked in China, where this version is targeted towards.

Chinese market has a liking for bigger cars and BMW is preparing the LWB version keeping that in mind. Moreover, India too can be a major market that also would prefer the seven-seater model.

The drawing show that there is no change in the design of this vehicle as compared to the standard X1. The only changes are the longer wheelbase and slightly larger rear doors that obviously would be required in a LWB version.

The LWB X1 is expected to share the same engines as the standard one starting with the inline three-cylinder diesel and also the 2.0-litre, 228 bhp AWD, maybe with a little bit of tweaking. The technical details are yet unknown but the LWb very maybe called X1 Li.

The BMW X1 seven-seater version is expected to make its debut by mid-2016.
